Here's a bit of a theory. Since that plan has the 3-pin-plug logo on it, could it be a potential experimental design for when they first brought in the freight livery; one which they discarded in favour of the black and silver at the time? You'd think that if it was a new one, it would have the new tricolour logo on it.

Did it not run in grey too? Thought it had a few liveries.

Thought it was turned out first in dark grey with no identification, then red 'CC1' added and finally turned out in mid green, eau de nil 'CC1' and waistband and, oddly, eau de nil wasp stripes on the ends.

Minister and Warbonnet - I'm only aware of green. It would certainly have had grey undercoat as locos were often photographed officially in grey for works photos before being properly painted. This showed detail up better in the b & W works photos. 800 "Maedb" was grey with details picked out in black and white for its works photo in 1939 - I have several copies showing this (and minus nameplate too). I know that the "wasp stripes" were not added right a the start, (and I've a notion they were yellow rather than eau-de-nil, but can't be sure), and the number CC1 was also not there right at the start.

Once painted thus, it ended its days in the standard CIE mid-green, albeit with non-standard markings!

I remember seeing the chassis of it kicking about Inchicore - that was still green. Odd looking thing..........

Very interesting pics - believe it or not, that's the green. For comparison see the coach attached to it - it's green too, albeit faded; but the pic makes it look greyish. That is the thing in its pre-stripes version, thus it is certainly taken on early trial runs.

Must be B&NCR 'invisible green' =))

Rumour has it that the first repaint is appearing over the week-end for a trial run.

So the rumours that NO locos have been repainted could turn out to be false? PIMP:)

Pat

I have seen a photo of an 071 in paint

Also had filler where some work was being done

These were shown to me by an employee of the company

They are being painted as we speak

Getting information as to what goes on in Inchicore is like trying to get Cold War intel on the Soviet Union.

We ought to have the skill available amongst all those here on this forum to produce the means to gain access to the information that we require...

Harder. You need the CIA and their waterboarding to find out anything. It's like the Stonecutters society.

A guy called to tell you about a meeting for a wink wink at the you know what.=))

I don't doubt it, Dave. Someone else a few pages back reckoned it wasn't true, though...

AHHH!!! Have we proof that 077 still exists???? Methinks tis all a plot by subversive extra-terrestrial forces.

Along with 078 and poor 087.

085 has been burdened with the ol Inchicore ball and chain for over a year now.

Good God, it's not far off Frank Herbert's concept of the Hunter Seeker in Dune.[/url]

Even just a few years ago, that Black Hornet would have to be a spoof..

..give it a few more years and you'll be able to buy your own for a tenner..

Livery aside it's a great testament to the class that they are still being overhauled for many more years of work. They must be the most successful diesel locos we have had.
