Northman Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 One set of Bachmann IE Autoballasters has sold for £235.
WRENNEIRE Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 Here we go http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bachmann-Murphy-Models-JJA-MK2-Auto-Ballaster-Pack-Irish-Iarnrod-Eireann-/142286817236?hash=item2120f487d4:g:t4UAAOSwOgdYrBmo
RobertRoche Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Are the Bachmann flat top autoballasters (railtrack etc) the same as the Bachmann Irish models, apart from the obvious fact that they are flat topped?
Warbonnet Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Are the Bachmann flat top autoballasters (railtrack etc) the same as the Bachmann Irish models, apart from the obvious fact that they are flat topped? They are the same except for the shaved head on the hopper top, which makes them look quite different alas. 1

Riversuir226 Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 Two UK ones sold on one of the UK face book selling sites for £46 for the pair, a nice little bargain.
Noel Posted June 7, 2020 Posted June 7, 2020 7 hours ago, Noel said: Looks like a relatively easy respray of Bachmann Rail Track 38-210. No masking needed, one single colour, just a lot of small transfers to be carefully placed. Personally I've not interest in anything yellow, nor PW stuff, so never aspired to respray any rail track stock. I remember seeing a twin pack of Irish rail ones for sale a few years ago for €70 and my jaw nearly dropped thinking no way I'd ever pay €35 each for a wagon especially one that didn't transport either passengers or goods. If one was into yellow PW stuff that sounds like a good deal now compared to buying and respraying RailTrack but its an easy single colour respray. SSM do the transfers (see below) https://www.oliviastrains.com/trains/mt/bachmann-wagons/bachmann-high-capacity-hopper-wagons/bachmann-38-210-jja-autoballaster-generator-in-railtrack-livery/ Also regularly on eBay 6 hours ago, Mick said: Noel, I think I'll have a go at respraying! Is there any way to get know what shade of yellow would be similar or just trial and error? Hi Mick. I replied here on the original thread rather than hijack the Barrow Street thread. As to shade of yellow, Suggest Trial and error starting with Vallejo or Tamiya yellow out of the bottle. I normally mix paint by eye and put a sample on small test pieces of plastic card that have been primed so that you can see what it looks like when dry. First step I would take is remove the bogies and give the entire model a few coats of Halfords plastic grey primer (or Hycote) to hide the rail track colour and logos. Then and only then a few coats of a suitable shade of yellow. You'll know by eye straight away if it looks right, and can adjust the mix for the next coat. Bare in mind a few coats yellow will be needed on top of a darker colour grey primer. Then a coat of acrylic gloss varnish so that the transfers have a smooth surface to adhere to and the edges of the transfers blend into the gloss varnish. When finished transfers a coat of matt or satin varnish will take it back to the finish you require. 1
mphoey Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 i wonder will we either see a rerun of these or else will irm do a proper irish version 1

The last couple of years of IRM / Accurascale Irish releases have leaned more towards the steam / early diesel era... With IRM / Accurascale 22000's probably due next year, HOBS would seem appropriate to run alongside them. Perfect cross-merchandising! 5

Weshty supplies the transfers but be warned there is about 50 individual pieces to each wagon and after the first wagon I got it down to 40 mins to cut out and apply the decals to each one. Who’s weshty - and how do I contact him?

GM073 Posted March 20 Posted March 20 (edited) Thanks Mogul I’ve ordered several sets of decals from him, the auto ballasters and several more. Des Sullivan is a great source for these. Now. To learn all about airbrushing railway rolling stock!… Edited March 20 by GM073 1

I, too, have picked up a few donors, but none of that €80 plus stuff, only bought them when they were under €50, as THIS post removed any sense of urgency for me…

Gift threshold for non-EU countries is / was until very recently €45 including postage. Most private sellers will oblige and declare a value under that threshold. Professional sellers can’t, but private sellers can. An Post will charge the fees anyway, as they’re all braindead, except for you, of course. Then you claim it back from An Post, so there’s no extra cost.
