Irishswissernie Posted December 27, 2025 Author Posted December 27, 2025 Some coach views from 1955. The numbers at the end of the titles are my scan references I think rather than the coach numbers. GMK085 CIE 1955-xx 6whl Birdcage Brake 3rd 223. GMK078 CIE 1955-xx Cork 6 whl 1st 15d . C265. GMK080 CIE 1955-xx Cork, 6whl 1st 3M C263. GMK079 CIE 1955-xx GSW ex full 1st 264. GMK072 CIE 1955-xx 6whl Lav'1st & 3rd Cork C354. 15
Mol_PMB Posted December 27, 2025 Posted December 27, 2025 Very nice - thank you! The final 3rd is interesting as it is a 4-wheeler, with some extra trussing added to the underframe where the middle wheelset would normally be. Was it built like this or was it converted from a 6-wheeler, I wonder? 2

The railbus was rebodied later that year, dramatically changing how it looked. Lough Gill still has her BP chimney - they all got GNR ones by about 1950. Lough Gill was also the only Large Tank to keep smokebox lubricators. I think she was also the last Large Tank to be scrapped - was stranded at Dundalk awaiting repairs when the SL shut down 4

Mol_PMB Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Super - thank you! 018 is just how I remember the A class. The train at Westport has a wonderful mixture of liveries - 3 carriages in 'silver', 2 in green and 2 in BnT. At Galway, the Park Royal on the right has the earliest version of BnT livery with a shallower tan band and the number on the black portion. My impression is that it's 1398 but I can't be sure.

leslie10646 Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Ernie Thanks for these. Isn't it extraordinary how many photographs were taken (mainly by Englishmen) of this little railway? Possibly even more per mile than even the Fontana Horse Tram! Oh that they had expended more photographs on main line trains of the big companies? 4
Colonel Posted January 8 Posted January 8 What is it about roadside tramways? That first picture is a stunner. 2

But for every 200 photos of Courtmacsherry branch there is 1 of the nearby Kinsale Branch! 1 1

No.56's train would be worth blowing up, to help identify the brake van behind one of "my" 10 ton vans. It looks a bit like a six wheel 1909 25 ton brake van with Guard's, Luggage and Drovers' compartments. No less than 28 feet long. Has anyone ever attempted a model? It obviously survived into my period. 1

Enlarged but not much help. It was in the middle of the train so probably not being used as a Brake Van. 6
leslie10646 Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Thanks, Ernie. My money is still on the 1909 van, built to Diagram No.43 (later 144?). My copy of the Wagon book, as scanned from the IRRS copy and in Richard McLachlan's series of drawing books, shows the doors in a very different combination, albeit in much the same positions. The GNR was very good at little changes, which DID get recorded in the wagon books, but not on this occasion it seems! A nice prototype for @Galteemore, even if it isn't at Enniskillen? 2 1

I have her in 7mm This one Dave of the real one ;SLNC 1957-06-19 'Hazlewood' PFF023. Then this one of your actual model (I think). I had 2 and the other one had 'Lurganboy' nameplates. The layout its on lay unfinished for several years and the locos got a bit dusty. The Wing Tank is one of son Alan's creations which he no doubt sold at a later date. The layout bit the dust when Madame decided she wanted her front room back and everything was consigned to the loft for several years until she then decided that the rooms there would be ideal for conversion to bedrooms to cater for children and grandchildren when they came for holidays etc. 8

I think so, it may have been a swop for some Murphy Diesels, unfortunately the exact details are in that period from my age of 10 until my birthday last month when I can't remember much, they may have originally gone to Des Sullivan? 8 hours ago, leslie10646 said: Come to the talk on Friday and you'll see a lot more.
