irishrail201 Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I recently picked up a "your model railway village" collectors mag in super value today....for €5.00 included was a mark 1 coach and a length of track.....upon looking at the mark 1...it is actually pretty good.....unbelievable value.....id nearly say its better quality than the Hornby mark 1s.......maybe it might be an idea to buy up some mags and create a whole length train! Metal wheels and quite heavy...... should check it out! Quote
BosKonay Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Was a mention in the bargain watch thread too. Great value for money. Clearly subsidized. Quote
minister_for_hardship Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Maybe worth a punt, having said that...if one were to buy the whole series twould cost around 1300 quid! Who manufactured the coach/track? Was there some sort of a Jinty on the tv ad? Quote
UP6936 Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Bought 3 of these myself, pretty good quality and great value. According to a big discussion on them on RMweb, it seems most are being bought by modellers buying in bulk Quote
murrayec Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 I bought 4 of them, great value, but does need a bit of work. The main let down is the quality of the roof, as mentioned above a bit of paint will sort that out. Some detail will be added when I get a chance;- NS wire to replace the plastic moulded stuff on the roof and ends, more detailed corridor connectors, and better buffers. I might also do the under frame structure, its a bit of a let down, but it is underneath! I was thinking of a green body colour;- does anyone know of a photo or two they can direct me to? murrayec Quote
UP6936 Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Do you mean CIE green or southern region green? Quote
murrayec Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Do you mean CIE green or southern region green? CIE green with a white line down the side, I was thinking! murrayec Quote
Riversuir226 Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 I ve searched town for it but no luck yet, they could come in handy for a bit of scratchbuilding. Quote
BosKonay Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 They might be sold out - I doubt the publisher reckoned on avid modellers across the UK and IE snapping them on on the cheap with no intention of buying a sub Quote
Guest hidden-agenda Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 I wonder when the loco is due . Quote
Warbonnet Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 I wonder when the loco is due . I believe you have to write to the publisher for the loco and they send it out to you. No idea when it'll be out, but a Jinty on the cheap would be handy for NCC conversion maybe? I believe it'll be a low detailed take on the Bachmann model. Quote
UP6936 Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 I was thinking the same thing about an NCC jinty myself warbonnet. It would look good weathered up, I think Quote
Riversuir226 Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 I ve searched town for it but no luck yet, they could come in handy for a bit of scratchbuilding. Bought 4 today;), they re pretty good for the price. The Jinty is Bachmann according to the magazine kinda tempted to collect the mag as theres a few free gifts with a subscription plus the jinty is an easy conversion to a NCC jinty Quote
irishrail201 Posted September 3, 2013 Author Posted September 3, 2013 I think the jinty will be the Bachmann jiny with a discount Quote

I read on another forum that the loco and controller have to be bought separately, not sure if there's a discount for buying the magazine. I picked up a few of these myself, you can't go wrong for a fiver! Quote
Riversuir226 Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 The power pack is approx £39 and the jinty is only £69 both as a subscriber special offer:(( Quote

RedRich Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 I see George 's set painted in green on RMweb and they look nice, Definitely worth a few quid to use them as a scratch building or kit bashing aid. I do think they would benifit hugely from fitting proper trussing and Masokit's MK1 brake gear to the underframe. Rich, Quote
Warbonnet Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 George has done a nice job on his. Still unsure what to do with my two, might try and pick another one up if I can find one. Will be BR related anyway. Maybe Postal or test coach related. That trussing has to go though. Quote
