Decided to add a little more detail to my SSM crossing gates, earlier today.

First job, was to cut four new pillars to the size required.

Supports and hinges were then added to two of the four pillars.

Then, it was on to painting.

Job done.

Very nice.

Do they open on hinges?

As far as I can remember, the kit is designed to have working hinges. I've just added these as a cosmetic detail.

Class 201  no.220

Weathering has been kept to a minimum, with the exhaust and underside carrying most of the grime.

I have also fitted a driver.

Excellent work pal. 220 has always been my favorite of the class. The exhaust always sounded a bit different. The gates look amazing too. Des has brought some amazing kits to the Irish scene down through the years.

Cheers, Rich. Bit of soft spot for 220 myself, so she was always going to be first in line to get a little bit of a makeover.

Yep, fantastic kits and an absolute gent to deal with.

How  did you remove cab to fit a driver ? I have been wanting to fit drivers to my three 201’s.

Apologies, hadn't been on, so completely missed your post. I see you got sorted anyway.

Another batch of wagons are now on the bench. This time around, it's my 12 gypsum's along with 3 more ballast hoppers.

Spent the last couple of evenings highlighting some of the smaller details.

Wagons will eventually be weathered. When, is anyone's guess.

Little or nothing worked on since my last post, other than this pair of hornby containers, which I weathered over the Christmas break. I really must get the finger out.

They look fantastic Jason- really excellent 👏👏

Cheers, Rob. Like myself, you have a soft spot for containers. Well you should do, you've got enough of them stored on Heuston North :)

Cheers John. They will eventually find a permanent home on my 42' flats, once I get around to weathering them.

Following on from my recently finished containers, I have now turned my attention to my 42' flats.

Before carrying out any weathering on these, I have decided to swap out the original bogies and replace them with the more recent version, which has the brass bearings.

I guess you'll be selling off a few retired bogies?

That's what I should do. Although, me being me, I'll probably end up keeping them up as spares, knowing quite well that I'll never use them!

After reading @murphaph's recent post regarding a rerun of his fert transfers, it reminded me that the five sheets I bought from him last year, were still tucked away in a drawer upstairs.

So, I thought it was about time I dug them out and gave them a try.

As you can see below, they are designed to cover the top of the loads when applied.

It got me thinking, how the load would look if fully wrapped. For example, if they were to be used on a yard scene.

Here's how they turned out.
