Hi josefstadt

I had thought if it- but I dismissed the corridor around the break compartment as there is goods doors on both sides and reckoned this would be the end of the train!

I also had the partition at the other end in the correct location first but soldered it in the wc partition location, leaving the doors in the seating area- I only noticed this when making up the seats.

Both are fixable, I'll use styrene to do the partitions.

Was there a set of doors in the break compartment partition into the corridor to access the exterior doors on that side?

As far as I remember there was a sliding door where the passenger area was adjacent to the guards area.

Certainly in all variations I remember - with the exception of an elderly converted Bredin I was in once on the up Sligo night mail.

But there were variations on many themes among the laminates by the time they were all withdrawn. I recall being in a laminate standard in 1972 with a most peculiar layout of doors, vestibule & jax at one end. Dunno what number it was, just remember the inside. It was on a midday down Cork with a newly-painted “Supertrain” Nos. 121+12?...

I completed out the Laminate coach a month ago or so, set up some photos to post up and promptly forgot to do!  - So here are the final bits of the build;-

I made .5mm styrene partitions for the corridors and break/goods compartment, painted them brown and test fitted them to the body, chassis n seats.

.25mm styrene window sheets were cut out and stuck onto the internal sides with Deluxe Glue'n'Glaze with the aid of a few metal weights to old as the glue goes off.

The decal numbers and door handles were fitted, the handles are .4mm bent NS wire through a sliver of tinfoil as the escutcheons for the locks, the body is now ready for a few coats of satin varnish.

Varnish complete I test fitted all the internal bits and then glued them in with Glue'n'Glaze- windows & corridor dividers.

Everything ready to bolt it together!

It fits beautifully, the screws just slotted in and screwed up a treat.

Some tinfoil bits were stuck onto the tops of the passenger door glazing and finally it's pristine Complete!!

And some photos on white.

The interior wall linings add a lot to the coaches, do you cut them out by hand or use a profile cutter?

Hi John

I cut the styrene with a Cameo Silhouette machine, it doesn't cut all the way through .5mm styrene but scores it heavily and then out with the scalpel.....

I have set up the Stepcraft cnc machine to cut styrene now, it can cut with a drag knife like the Cameo and cuts all the way through .5mm sheet and more, or I cut with the rotary tool like cutting metal but experiencing heat problems. There are special single flute tools to cut plastic and one uses compressed air to cool the plastic, I'm still perfecting this system......

...and finally the laminate coach lightly weathered;-

A light spray coating of track dust to the running gear and the coach ends, a few small rust patches here n there, a brown & black wash was dripped down the sides and then cleaned up and the roof was kind of dry brushed with a grey wash and and a rust wash and then cleaned off, axle boxes were painted with metal cote black and polished when dry, same to the buffers, suspension springs given a rust wash.....

Thanks guys,

There is allowance for strip lighting and maybe some passengers but that work was not included in the project now- maybe later as I have a few more kits to build for this client and he may decide on that later....

Any update on the availability of the CW bogies? @murrayec

@DiveController

Its on the list to do but I'm a bit busy at the moment-

I need to beef up the masters and make the moulds again, it was rather difficult to mould the sides I made for this project because some of the detail parts of the masters were to thin, the white metal would not flow by gravity to fill the mould completely as cooled to quickly. Thicker parts should hold the heat a bit longer?? ......

I have a number of orders for these so hope to do it soon!
