216 in action this Wednesday evening on the IWT at the East Wall Yard.  First pushing back a set of containers under the bridge towards Sheriff Street.

Then picked up two empty (30234 and 30253) leaving them in front of the set to be attached.

216 ran around the two empty flats before pushing them back to connect to the rest of the set and then heading off down Alexandra Road to Dublin Port.

I think the number of wagons attached came to 24 [later corrected to 20]- one of the longest l have seen recently.

Great craic of an evening 😀

Great pics, but with the two wagons added in the train would only be 20 wagons.. Likely two of the wagons that arrived from Ballina were "red-cards" and needed to be brought back empty to NW for maintenance or an exam..

The Max in Ocean Pier is about 22 wagons, otherwise the train would block access to some facilities in the port(green building in the background)

Wonder how long 216 will retain the Belmond livery now that it's bitten the dust.................

Nice to see some women with an interest in containers. :D

There's make-up IN the container, and matching nail varnish. Boxes of it.

072 in action this Thursday evening at the East Wall Yard, first pushing back the IWT liner under the bridge towards Sheriff Street before heading down Alexandra Road towards Dublin Port.

078 parked up in the yard too with 8 container flats.

30278 was like something straight from an IRM box given the new paint job on it!

218 at work at the East Wall Yard / Alexandra Road Thursday evening.

20 wagons- 18 first at East Wall Yard but 2 empties added, leading to not much room to manoeuvre to clear the points, when the loco was changing ends.

The light green Dong Fang container isn't one you'd see much, compared to the old reliables of Bruhn, GCA, Triton etc.

But staying on the ground after falling defies the laws of physics. It should evaporate straight away, apart from the odd exceptional occasion.

082 at the East Wall yard / Alexandra Road trip this Friday evening at 18:30, before the move to nightime container moves from next week which is a pity. 😥😥

Good views tonight- plenty of Bruhn Spedition tankers as usual and an 071 class is always great.

Catch em while you can, loading of trains is switching to 2200in ~ 2330 out on 16/08 so there won’t be any daytime container moves down the tramway..

@MOGUL had the bad news....

The newest section of the Athlone-Mullingar greenway is set to open next week. It goes from the 'White Gates' level crossing down towards the old junction just before the White Bridge crossing the Shannon.

I'm hoping that it will make a great photo spot, with hopefully a nice view of the end of the white bridge, or the curve leading up to it. There's a ramp up to the greenway at the side of Dunnes Stores, so no problem parking a car to go get some shots.

I'll keep an eye on it, and pop up to check it out when it is open, and stick up a pic here

What days / times would the liner pass through Athlone?

I do hear the odd 071 in the distance when the wind is right - around 5ish I think, but I don't know which way it is heading

The two liners(up and down) would normally be in Athlone between 12 and 1 most days.. Could be slightly earlier or later..

Only thing I can think of that would be 071 hauled around 5pm would be the empty Waterford to West of Ireland Timber, which I think runs Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday at the moment

Since the moving of the IWT Liner down to Ocean Pier from North Wall to nighttime, there seems to be a lot less containers on it when it is parked up after arriving from Ballina.

Maybe just coincidence with a quieter time or is there some reason?

Just 20ft Tankers on the liner this evening in North Wall- no 20 / 40 / 45 ft containers which is rare.

Never saw 'Murphy Transport Ltd' tanker before either-  too far away to take photo but they were like the one below, alongwith the usual 'DANA' and 'GCA'.

Maybe a new one for C Rail??😀

The Monday and Tuesday trains ex Ballina always tend to be a little be light.. This can be more pronounced when the loadings in Ballina are for destinations not served by container.. The way things work out, the trains from Wed-Fri ex Ballina tend to be full to the max to make up for this, for example today's train ex Ballina has 27 units on it and tomorrow's will have 28..

The Murphy's tanks are on hire to replace some of the older DCIU tanks I believe, some of the DCIU tanks are at least 18 years old
