Rob Posted March 31, 2021 Author Posted March 31, 2021 (edited) 216 in action this Wednesday evening on the IWT at the East Wall Yard. First pushing back a set of containers under the bridge towards Sheriff Street. Then picked up two empty (30234 and 30253) leaving them in front of the set to be attached. 216 ran around the two empty flats before pushing them back to connect to the rest of the set and then heading off down Alexandra Road to Dublin Port. I think the number of wagons attached came to 24 [later corrected to 20]- one of the longest l have seen recently. Great craic of an evening Edited April 8, 2021 by Rob Clarification 8 Quote
MOGUL Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 Great pics, but with the two wagons added in the train would only be 20 wagons.. Likely two of the wagons that arrived from Ballina were "red-cards" and needed to be brought back empty to NW for maintenance or an exam.. The Max in Ocean Pier is about 22 wagons, otherwise the train would block access to some facilities in the port(green building in the background) 5 1 Quote
Rob Posted April 1, 2021 Author Posted April 1, 2021 Cheers for that- great pics from Ocean Pier Quote
popeye Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 Nice to see some women with an interest in containers. 1 2 Quote

jhb171achill Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 Wonder how long 216 will retain the Belmond livery now that it's bitten the dust................. 4 minutes ago, Georgeconna said: its probably a selfie or checking the eye liner. Rob Posted April 8, 2021 Author Posted April 8, 2021 072 in action this Thursday evening at the East Wall Yard, first pushing back the IWT liner under the bridge towards Sheriff Street before heading down Alexandra Road towards Dublin Port. 078 parked up in the yard too with 8 container flats. 30278 was like something straight from an IRM box given the new paint job on it! 4 Quote
Rob Posted April 15, 2021 Author Posted April 15, 2021 218 at work at the East Wall Yard / Alexandra Road Thursday evening. 20 wagons- 18 first at East Wall Yard but 2 empties added, leading to not much room to manoeuvre to clear the points, when the loco was changing ends. The light green Dong Fang container isn't one you'd see much, compared to the old reliables of Bruhn, GCA, Triton etc. 6 Quote
DJ Dangerous Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 Some lovely pictures of the containers, too! I saw a Cronos 20' the other day, they are ubiquitous. 1 Quote
Rob Posted May 5, 2021 Author Posted May 5, 2021 076 on the IWT at North Wall / Alexandra Road this Monday evening. Always good to see an 071 at work especially at close quarters. 5 Quote

Rob Posted August 6, 2021 Author Posted August 6, 2021 Great to see the containers back again down Alexandra Road this Friday evening. 220 leading a full length today with the Bruhn Spedition tankers in great numbers. 5 2 Quote
spudfan Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 Nice collection of photos. Pity action like that is not more widespread on the network. Great way to spend time, watching freight on the rails and taking photos. 3 Quote
JasonB Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 Nice catch, Rob. Always nice to see a bit of decent freight on the rails. 1 1 Quote
MOGUL Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 (edited) Catch em while you can, loading of trains is switching to 2200in ~ 2330 out on 16/08 so there won’t be any daytime container moves down the tramway.. Edited August 7, 2021 by MOGUL 1 4 Quote
Rob Posted August 13, 2021 Author Posted August 13, 2021 082 at the East Wall yard / Alexandra Road trip this Friday evening at 18:30, before the move to nightime container moves from next week which is a pity. Good views tonight- plenty of Bruhn Spedition tankers as usual and an 071 class is always great. 9 Quote

skinner75 Posted August 20, 2021 Posted August 20, 2021 What days / times would the liner pass through Athlone? I do hear the odd 071 in the distance when the wind is right - around 5ish I think, but I don't know which way it is heading Quote
skinner75 Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 The newest section of the Athlone-Mullingar greenway is set to open next week. It goes from the 'White Gates' level crossing down towards the old junction just before the White Bridge crossing the Shannon. I'm hoping that it will make a great photo spot, with hopefully a nice view of the end of the white bridge, or the curve leading up to it. There's a ramp up to the greenway at the side of Dunnes Stores, so no problem parking a car to go get some shots. I'll keep an eye on it, and pop up to check it out when it is open, and stick up a pic here 3 Quote

Could be slightly earlier or later.. Only thing I can think of that would be 071 hauled around 5pm would be the empty Waterford to West of Ireland Timber, which I think runs Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday at the moment 2 1 Quote
Rob Posted August 23, 2021 Author Posted August 23, 2021 Since the moving of the IWT Liner down to Ocean Pier from North Wall to nighttime, there seems to be a lot less containers on it when it is parked up after arriving from Ballina. Maybe just coincidence with a quieter time or is there some reason? 3 Quote
Rob Posted August 24, 2021 Author Posted August 24, 2021 Just 20ft Tankers on the liner this evening in North Wall- no 20 / 40 / 45 ft containers which is rare. Never saw 'Murphy Transport Ltd' tanker before either- too far away to take photo but they were like the one below, alongwith the usual 'DANA' and 'GCA'. Maybe a new one for C Rail?? 2 1 Quote

The Monday and Tuesday trains ex Ballina always tend to be a little be light.. This can be more pronounced when the loadings in Ballina are for destinations not served by container.. The way things work out, the trains from Wed-Fri ex Ballina tend to be full to the max to make up for this, for example today's train ex Ballina has 27 units on it and tomorrow's will have 28.. The Murphy's tanks are on hire to replace some of the older DCIU tanks I believe, some of the DCIU tanks are at least 18 years old 3 Quote
