  1. One thing to bear in mind is by IE days the majority of the compos and firsts were de classified as standards . Great footage here (at 08.15) of an up Sligo made up of 3 standards 2 compos (de classified) 1 first (de classified) 1 diner and 1 compo very typical mix . Interestingly enough the ex first is maybe 5104 with black window surrounds and 5215 also with black window surrounds no silver both these coaches were rebuilt by BREL in 1987/88 following a incident at Newry in 1985 .
  2. It would look nice with a few keg wagons behind it .
  3. Looks good Noel difficult around the doors , I think the reverse masking method works great when it’s a single white line at the top on the Black and Tan livery which is thicker than the white line on the IR / IE livery I imagine it would be very challenging and increases the risk of small bits of the paint coming off with the masking tape .
  4. The would have survived on the beet campaign up until late 1970’s
  5. Looks fantastic.
  6. The day after they get the money and approval for that they will remove the rail link. If it was a realistic proposition the rail would go all the way to the quayside so you could unload straight from the ship onto the train. The prospect of rail traffic would be doomed from the get go , its only included to boost the plans green credentials and nothing else .
  7. Park Royals would be a good option , as there were plenty of liveries , sliver , green, black and tan and dual white stripe and a number of variants mainline , suburban , with guards van , snack car and ambulance coach .
  8. My 4x 20'container packs arrived great job , roll on the 10' uniloads ......................?
  9. Very impressive
  10. Nice job on the interiors , great to see one with the lights on .
  11. I think that c rail are already there with the pink container https://www.c-rail-intermodal.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=278
  12. I'm a lifelong practicing atheist , who's christ ?
  13. If someone put up this model as an example of their work I would be very sensitive in my comments or would choose not to comment at all , however the fact that someone is putting this model up for sale then I think we are free to comment and the if seller has a hard enough neck to sell something like this than I think they would be pretty impervious to any comments on here.
  14. Wonder if one could submit a minus(-) bid so the seller pays you to take them away .
  15. That’s very interesting Gleeson and O ‘Dea were a firm of ironmongers in Dublin , I think there was a connection to Jim O’Dea railway photographer
  16. Did a similar fate not befall CIE (B201) 224 , following its transfer to NIR in 1985/86 was found to have a bent frame and was replaced by 218 , its was laying out of use for many years before being scrapped .
  17. Surely you mean ‘the plough and the stars ‘ van in that case
  18. I think DiveController is on the money with regard to the fitting of CAWS in the mid 1980’s as this would coincide with this modification, I think the large and small windows have been followed by Paddy Murphy in his 121 models
  19. No this was an earlier mod carried out to all the 121's except 125 . the rear cab windows being covered over came much later and was only carried out to a few locos .
  20. Looks very good at this stage for a comparison here is a great shot of brian Flannigans from Flickr
  21. I think all of the 121 class had the modified smaller window except 125 .
  22. For the irish rail Mk2a,b,c 4101,4102,4108,4110 Hornby or Bachmann Mk2A SO's or Murphy models Mk2A's 4401 4402 4109 Lima Mk2 B Fk 4113 4114 Bachmann Mk2a Fk 4103 4104 4105 4106 4107 were Mk2c FO's nothing commercially available yet . 4601, 4602,4603 Dutch EGV , Dc kits or Irish freight models . Here's a link to one I converted earlier
  23. Here’s a Lima Mk2f picked this up on eBay for less than €20 , a bit dated and a few mm shorter than other manufacturers but not the end of the world, add some Shaw plan flush glaze and add handrails and you have got a good Mk2f
  24. Any Mk2f is a pretty good match although the CIE ones were classed as Mk2D they are nearer to the BR Mk2F , Lima did a Mk2F 1st and 2nd a little dated but with a little work they are not too bad . Bachmann have recently introduced a Mk2f excellent models but pricey , Hornby have recently introduced a MK2F 1st and 2nd they are really nice coaches and reasonable priced , I managed to pick one up for £31.50 Stg with a view to repainting it in Supertrain colours .
  25. I was reading George Dent's ' Airbrushing for railway modellers ' he suggests washing the model with a soda crystal solution prior to painting .
