  1. Nice shots. Can't believe the cab logo is already looking worn, though!
  2. This layout is fast becoming one of my favourites here. Great work!
  3. Good stuff, John. Definitely interested in a few of these kits.
  4. Looks like an excellent project... any more photos?
  5. They cost a hell of a lot of money to stage. Amongst other things, insurance is insane and exhibitors ain't cheap... even smaller jets like the F-86 and Hunter cost hundreds per hour in fuel alone. Military exhibitors, even foreign ones, can cost a lot less as their appearances are often a goodwill gesture, but there's no guarantee you can confirm them, and even if you do, they can often cancel for 'operational reasons'. A good thing was kicking off with the Air Spectaculars at Baldonnel just over a decade or so ago, but after the last one was held some military operators filed complaints... their maintenance crews found crisp packets and other rubbish stuffed into air intakes after people wandered past the fencing unchecked.
  6. German, eh? There's a good chance that they're three of the Venoms built under licence for the Swiss Air Force, and that the RAF emblem isn't genuine.
  7. This is looking like a fantastic project... can't wait for the next update. PS: Love the Gleismac!
  8. Holy. Moly. Venoms! How did three of them get there!?
  9. A recent photo of the derailed Class 66: http://www.flickr.com/photos/svqmedia/9761526413/lightbox/ Looks like most of its major components have been removed.
  10. Excellent photos, Wanderer. Loved the roar from the Hunter and Sabre.
  11. Excellent pics from the day taken by The Wanderer. Link in his forum post here: http://www.irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/2372-Flightfest?p=35323#post35323
  12. Reading through this thread again, it's amazing how many of us here are also aviation nuts!
  13. Fantastic line-up. In addition to the aircraft already mentioned, I loved the Hunter and Sabre, Catalina and B-17, and the Air Corps put on a great show too... especially the fly-past with both Casas and the PC9s (that one was memorable).
  14. Strange, it wasn't there when I checked it earlier. Anyway, it'll be nice to see one over Dublin! Fingers crossed the weather holds out!
  15. Aye... best stay in the south of the Liffey if you don't want to be blinded by the sun! Really wanted to see the Vulcan, too. However, the A380 has disappeared from the website but is still being advertised on the radio ads, so maybe... just maybe!
  16. There sure is, but it's a fly-past as opposed to an air show: http://www.flightfest.ie/ Some tasty stuff participating, including a B-17 Flying Fortress, F-86 Sabre, Hawker Hunter, and restored Air Corps Chipmunks. Unfortunately, previously listed aircraft like the Avro Vulcan, Spitfire and A380 appear to have cancelled.
  17. Looks good so far... another thread to keep a close eye on!
  18. And then the Irish Times publishes this on Friday: http://www.irishtimes.com/business/sectors/transport-and-tourism/french-operator-looks-to-irish-rail-to-make-savings-and-improve-reliability-1.1509990 'French operator looks to Irish Rail to make savings and improve reliability' (A flawed exercise if you ask me...)
  19. Doubt Stobart's marketing team would decide to use 'Union Jack' colours here. I reckon they would go green, like the road fleet, which would also avoid clashing with Translink's blue liveries. If they also ditched that stupid '...the Engine' name thing, all the better. Ah, pipe dreams...
  20. Been following this with interest on the blog... superb!
  21. As Warbonnet pointed out, the Grand Duchy of Baden State Railway used the 5ft 3in gauge. More recently, there would have been a length or two of 5ft 3in gauge track at the Siemens plant in Leipzig to accommodate the 8100 Dart refurb...
  22. Spoil wagons... used in the construction of a road (M1? Can't remember right now...). Rakes of them were topped and tailed by WT class dream locos (Jeeps), which by that stage were the last steam engines in use on any mainline in the UK or Ireland. I'm guessing they had already fulfilled their original purpose by the time the photo was taken, hence 'retain' being painted on the side of the three in that photo.
  23. Heard that the 18.05 Belfast-Dublin service on Thursday was delayed... due to a failed speedometer.
