Railer Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 (edited) Knew she'd be late livery Dave. She was modified a bit after '87. Shame about the bogie issues again. Edited February 21, 2018 by Railer Quote
Noel Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 (edited) Nice but I thought this coach was due to be CIE livery (i.e. single white stripe), to match with 1504, 1515 and 1149. Bogie problem is easy to fix with a DIY plastic shim or wait for MM parts due soon. Edited February 21, 2018 by Noel Quote

WRENNEIRE Posted February 22, 2018 Author Posted February 22, 2018 Slight difference with the new Snack car 1509 on the top in both pics 5 Quote
Noel Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 (edited) Dave have you had a chance to test run MM1509? Does it wobble like the RPSI cravens? I understand they were made in the same factory. Edited February 22, 2018 by Noel Quote
RedRich Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 The air vent should also have been in the same position on 1508. Not a deal breaker and it still is a bench mark for coaching models.now. Really smashing models. Rich, 1 Quote
iarnrod Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Must be new moulds in use for the air vent to have changed location. Strange one. Also, looking at Dave's photos, the white lines on the new model seem a bit thicker and the top orange portion seems to extend slightly further up the roof. Not a deal breaker but the older 1508 model seems more accurate livery wise to the real thing. Cant wait for the 121's to be released but the wobble issue on the Cravens released in the last while, the vent in the wrong location and slight livery variations on the new Cravens buffet worry me slightly, as it seems the standard coming from whatever factory is used now doesn't seem to be as high as the previous factories used for these models. 3 Quote
RedRich Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 The air vent is actually in the correct position on 1509, 1508's should be in the same position. A pic of 1508 shows the position it should be. Rich, 2 1 Quote
iarnrod Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Well so it is. Thanks Rich. Looks like mould must have been altered to locate it to correct location, which is good to see. 1 Quote

I did add the shims to the new coach but it is safely tucked away now. 1 3 Quote
Glenderg Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 The decoration/tampo looks tighter all round, would love to see them in the flesh. The white lines appear crisper, if that makes sense? Agreed Rich, the benchmark for coaching stock, especially when you consider the width and airyness of the proto in comparison to the like of the MK2 A-F coaches. R. 1 Quote

Have you managed to acquire a Marks Models resin 201 Class kit? As far as I recall the kits were cast from a master produced by an MRSI member who produced a fleet of plasticard 201s that ran on lengthened Athearn SD45 chassis during the mid-late 1990s. The scratchbuilt 201s were built and finished to a high standard and close to the standard of rtr diesel locos available at the time. John 2 Quote

So you dared to actually handle the coach without using gloxing boves for protection, prized the bogies off, fitted the washers, and put it away again without even playing with it? Quote

WRENNEIRE Posted February 23, 2018 Author Posted February 23, 2018 John The member was Noel Dodd and he also did a 141 and an 071. I don't have a model of the 071 unfortunately. 1 Quote
Mayner Posted February 24, 2018 Posted February 24, 2018 Dave I wasn't sure if the master for the Marks Models 201 was produced by Noel Dodd or Tony Mirolo both highly talented modelers. Are there any photos that could be posted of Noel's Greystones layout an Irish & UK exhibition staple of the mid-late 1990s? For those that are not familiar Greystones was a massive exhibition layout that featured a near scale length model of the station and its environment. Quote
WRENNEIRE Posted February 24, 2018 Author Posted February 24, 2018 (edited) To the best of my knowledge Greystones is no more ( I heard it was burnt) but I am sure there are some pics of it still around I will keep you posted John. Edited February 24, 2018 by WRENNEIRE Quote
WRENNEIRE Posted March 13, 2018 Author Posted March 13, 2018 Some scans I found recently From what I recall they are from a MRSI 3 Day Show catalogue but not sure of the date And my favourite, I have never seen an ad for "Irish" Jouef. Waller-Borden Ltd, Boghall Road. Bray, anyone ever hear of them? Enjoy. 2 Quote
WRENNEIRE Posted March 15, 2018 Author Posted March 15, 2018 Turns out the pics were from a 1980 Exhibition Guide for the MRSI 3 day show held in O'Connell CBS Hall off the NCR And finally, The Southern Model Railway Co. 3 Quote
Garfield Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 I remember the Modeller's Den - a tiny shop that also doubled as a post office. If I'm not mistaken, the address for the Southern Model Railway Company on D'olier Street is the same as the original Mark's Models premises? You had to take a stairs up to it... 2 Quote

Yes I remember SMRC well. Bought my first kits from that wonderful Aladdin's cave of modelling treasure. It was like the Tardis, bigger on the inside than it looked outside. The owner was a gentleman. Quote

WRENNEIRE Posted April 12, 2018 Author Posted April 12, 2018 I was looking in the vaults last night and I found these gems First is a Railway Modeller mag from 1980 featuring Adavoyle. There was some industrial action around the time this was to be published in May so the month does not appear on the cover. instead is is labelled as ""The Special Extra" Price 25p in pencil, UK price 20p It also has a "The Model Railway Shop" stamp on the cover, so a few unusual things about the cover. 8 pages of pics and info about the layout so loads there for anyone interested in this superb 21mm layout. I must say that this model of the GN Weedspray had me mesmerised for over half an hour when I first saw this layout some years ago, stunning. A cfew other bits that were also lurking in the vaults Looking for any info on the Sealink NIR logoed coaches, Lima did some back in the day but I never saw them with the NIR Logo on them 2 Quote
Garfield Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 Nice find, Dave. I have a few old Railway Modellers with the same Model Railway Shop stamp on them. Quote
Warbonnet Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 Pretty cool Dave. Adavoyle has to be the best Irish outline layout around, it's just stunning. The Lima Sealink coaches are of the BR Mark ones which ran excursion trains in the UK like below. NIR also painted their 70 class Thumper in the same livery. Bachmann recently did a twin coach pack in this livery too for their collectors club. 1 Quote

Robert Shrives Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 Hi Got to be said the MK1s - ScR planned two 6 car rakes and a spare brake and two SOs. They were intended for boat trains Glasgow- Stranraer . Certainly added to the route capacity. Nice paint job is all about the best that can be said but did not last sprinterisation long The pic looks to have most of the stock in one go! IIRC on withdrawl most cut up but some did get preserved- will have look that up now brains been tickled! I too have the RM with the layout, I was impressed at age 18 Quote
WRENNEIRE Posted April 26, 2018 Author Posted April 26, 2018 Mornin troops Couple of "Collector" pieces from the IRM stable Set B. Wagon 25195 should be a Bulk Cement. Another Set B, Irish Cement instead of CIE 25051. Set D, CIE Logo missing from one side of 25178 2 Quote
WRENNEIRE Posted June 20, 2018 Author Posted June 20, 2018 Found this tape in the bottom of a box last night Any info people, haven't had a tape player since I sold my GOLF GTI ! It says Hornby Railway Instructions, and has a 1989 date 1 Quote
Noel Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 Snap! Great find. I have one of those too. If I remember correctly side 1 had BBC 'Noel Edmunds' giving instructions for assembling a train set, but wait for it . . . side 2 has an 'Authentic Railway Sounds' track for playing background noises on a layout (e.g. trains, loco whistles and horns, station noises, track clink, passing trains, and station bustle noises, etc). When I found it a few years ago it gave me the idea to digitise it and build an iPhone app for playing various layout sounds using other recordings I have (e.g. distant trains, passing trains, station noises, background ambient noises, traffic, etc). 1 Quote
Noel Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 (edited) Here you go Dave ( @WRENNEIRE ). Both sides of the train set cassette tape posted to Youtube as audio only. Sound quality was poor on my cassette. Cassette Tape Side One Cassette Tape Side Two 1989 is more than 25 years ago so no copyright issue. Edited June 20, 2018 by Noel 1 Quote
