MDF going by the pictures

They are all MDF. 9mm MDF frame and 9mm MDF tops.

We do make birch ply baseboards to order, I will also be making the flat pack available in birch ply soon.

His antics have been going on for some time and he has left a lot of modelers out of pocket with no chance of recouping their money
Had a few run ins with him myself but thats another matter

This seems endemic in the model railway world. I am currently having issues with an indivudual who has a load of my (kit) models for many years now and won't give them back. He told me me he'd make them up in a matter of months and has spent years making increasinlgy nonsensical excuses and claims as to why he hasn't delivered them; along with frequent promises that he'll have them all ready "at the latest next Thursday" etc etc. 

He initially claimed he had them all finished, though I never believed that for a second. A trusted friend knows him and says he's a con man..... we'll see.

Many years ago I was similarly let down by a man in the 3.5 inch scale steam world who scammed me of £1500. Same thing - endless excuses. But I've a long memory and I don't take well to being scammed.

Yup, into the defunct section, based on Mr. Lindfield’s own publication on FaceBook, with an advisory over unclear company status at the top of the section, reminding users that the forum is not responsible for financial transactions.

It's a shame, as the baseboards looked decent. Only a couple of months ago, I was mulling over getting some from him to start a layout - glad I held off now after seeing this post!

Tell it like it is. He is a shyster. Wouldn't fancy ordering a fitted kitchen from his new "company". In fairness , paying total amount up front is just asking for trouble. I made and fitted a kitchen for a lady who had done just that- paid up front, and the guy who was doing it was never seen again. She then wanted to pay me up front as well. Some people never learn. I had to persuade her to only pay me a deposit until kitchen was in and she was happy with it. Hmmm..........I'm a cabinet maker/joiner......... Maybe I should start a baseboard business. Maybe not though.

Well, the guy I'm having issues with (seperate person) has one week before I start legal action! I've been told pack after pack of lies for several years now. It'll cost him a lot more long term if he has to employ a solicitor.

It's a bad lookout when you have to start thinking about legal action regarding what should be just a relaxing, enjoyable hobby. Hope it all works out for you @jhb171achill. Hope I never end up in that pickle.

Sadly it’s a common tale in the hobby. I really feel for those who have lost money. I suspect that the guilty parties generally don’t set out to defraud but end up overcommitted by not having a clear business model. Turning a hobby into a business is fraught with risk and can easily turn into a Ponzi scheme by default.

Unfortunately, this also rings a bell. Similar M.O. to a certain individual I had dealings with a few years back. Another David, by any chance?
