Deutschbahn Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Interesting, I better start camping in Gormanston so...
steventrain Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 224 with 6 Mk3s working an 1100 North Wall / Dundalk transfer today.
Deutschbahn Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 (edited) Irish Rail 224 and 6 Mk3's (1 egv, 3 standard class and 2 restaurant coaches) passed Laytown at 12:53 today on service from North Wall to Dundalk. [video=youtube;TGj2lw86f-U] Edited June 12, 2014 by Deutschbahn
gm171 kk Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Great shots Deutschbahn! Anyone know if the mk3s will move again next Thursday? The ones that moved today are heading north from Dundalk on Sunday.
Deutschbahn Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Thanks gm171! I hope someone gets shots of them in Dundalk before the scrap.
gm171 kk Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Thanks gm171! I hope someone gets shots of them in Dundalk before the scrap. "The Irish Mainline" on Youtube is heading up on Sunday. He'll get some good shots as usual.
201bhoy Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 The mk3s went past my house on Sunday at about ten to 9. Good video here They apparently ran around in Central, but there doesn't seem to be any photos of that... pity, even in the 80s and 90s I think the mk3s were quite rare up here... Does anyone know how many more transfers there will be?

I'll let you know if they run and you can assume they'll pass your house at the same time Sunday.
Railer Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 .. Does anyone know how many more transfers there will be? I reckon at least 3 more runs of 6-7 coaches depending on how many, if any will be kept. The big one will be to keep an eye out for 6305 and the Cafe/Bar coach.
UP6936 Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Three more sounds about right. Won't be more than 6 at a time. Any longer than 6 exceeds the shunt limit at Adelaide and causes issues apparently
Deutschbahn Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 No Mk3's ran at 11:00 today on transfer anyway.
gm171 kk Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 No Mk3's ran at 11:00 today on transfer anyway. They're being brake tested in North Wall today instead now. 7403 & 7607 did transfer today though from Waterford to Inchicore.
Deutschbahn Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Oh interesting, great shot! They must be getting transferred for the scrap.
heirflick Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 great pic there GM - well done and thanks for posting!
Railer Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Three more sounds about right. Won't be more than 6 at a time. Any longer than 6 exceeds the shunt limit at Adelaide and causes issues apparently They can get 7 max in fine without fouling the points. The first set that went up was a 7 piece rake and from the photos posted online there was no issues getting them in to the scrap siding.
RedRich Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 It pulls at the heart strings looking at that pic. Definitely the best designed coach for comfort when travelling. Rich,
Railer Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 I wonder why are the two Mk3s moved from Waterford going to Inchicore and not to Northwall for scrapping up north?

heirflick Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 great to hear that they will be saved - any clue as to what will happen to the weed spray coach when the genny is up and running ?
Deutschbahn Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Great to hear that. Fingers crossed 6105 will be one of the few kept along with the cafe/bar coach.
Killucan2 Posted June 19, 2014 Author Posted June 19, 2014 Are we going to have 2 departmental yellow mk3s?!! New spray train, could be yellow.
ttc0169 Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Today's movement. Nice one Sean well done-good catch.
Railer Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 They are going to have to convert the brakes to vacuum on 7607 for the weed spray train. Don't know how easy that will be for the lads in Inchicore or has it ever been done to a Mk3 anywhere before.
josefstadt Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 They are going to have to convert the brakes to vacuum on 7607 for the weed spray train. I don't think that this is correct. AFIK the EGV is to be converted to become the spray van. This will probably entail the removal of one of the generator sets and its replacement with the spray equipment. The restaurant car is to be used to provide more suitable accommodation for the staff (at present they travel in the spray coach) and that the train will be air-braked.
gm171 kk Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Could they not have two large tanks in the EGV where each of the generators used to be and another large tank in the kitchen half of the Restaurant coach and then accommodate the crew in the passenger half of the coach?
Garfield Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 (edited) Could they not have two large tanks in the EGV where each of the generators used to be and another large tank in the kitchen half of the Restaurant coach and then accommodate the crew in the passenger half of the coach? They need to keep one of the generator sets to power the whole shebang... and I'm not sure what H&S would have to say about accommodating crew adjacent to a big tank of weedkiller! Anyway, I propose that the new weedsprayer train should be known as The Orient Express. Edited June 20, 2014 by Garfield
BosKonay Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Aside from the mixed emotions over seeing the MK3's depart, it will be interesting to see these two in yellow!

If the train is to be air braked then that will mean modifying the 42ft flats to air brakes.
Garfield Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Easier for them to install a new genny before they seal the roof again, so....
tonybonneyba Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 (edited) Interesting to see which will replace the DD's when they are overhauled. It will bring a bit more variety to northern line come the summer anyway. 3000 class, more 29000 class, maybe even the odd ICR I believe that during the DD overhaul, only one 22000 will be replacing the enterprise. It will work something a bit like this; Eg, 9001 goes, 22001 comes 9001 comes back, 9002 goes 9002 comes back, 9003 goes 9003 comes back, 9004 goes 9004 comes back, 22001 goes home. It might not be in the that order nor It might not be 22001 but it will diffently work like this as both TNIR & IÉ officials have told me. Tony. Edited June 25, 2014 by tonybonneyba Spelling mistake & not having T in "it".
