Garfield Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 The tanker is looking good... love the little oul' Wikham, too! Quote
Kirley Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Interested to see how you do the Sound and lights Eamonn, that Inspection car looks fiddly work but it should be nice when you get it painted up. Quote

I am taking the lazy way out as regards using the chassis Off a39.I was going to do a brand new SF body in IR livery but had 001s body which all that needs is a detail kit. Although I love a39,she is a bit out of place in the black livery with other locos, and I thought the sound chipped 001 would be nice.I will get a deltic chassis for her at a Later stage. The inspection car is slow work-but only a bit tricky trying the get roof to fit right. scahalane Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Lovely job, particularly like that tanker. Quote
heirflick Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 looking forward to the 001 build eamonn! Quote
heirflick Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Eamonn, can i offer my 2 cents worth on this beauty - cut off the horn and get a pair like on the baby Gm's! makes the world of difference to what will i know be a great job. seamus Quote
enniscorthyman Posted March 5, 2014 Author Posted March 5, 2014 My workbench seems to give me more and more work, however a mate who is handy with wood, turned out these cement bubble tanks and I am going to try a build with parts from a prestwin chassis. The inspection car is still going slow, however I am thinking about trying this motor on the chassis. Not sure if this will work but will come back to it later. Quote
enniscorthyman Posted March 5, 2014 Author Posted March 5, 2014 Those bubbles look exquisite!! And possibly a cheap way of getting a few cement bubbles. I will post up on going photos to see what people think. Quote
Kirley Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 What is the weight like Eamonn, you won't need to ballast the wagons anyway. An innovative idea! Quote

The weight seems to be fine Kieran, from what I can see no need for extra ballast.I have one MIR bubble so I want to see how close I can build it to the original. Quote
Sulzer201 Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Lovely hurling there Eamonn, the bubbles look like they'll be spot on and your making a great fist of the inspection car, and very clever transmission system too! Quote

Thanks Tommy.I am trying to use up bits that I have, but the motor might not work and I might have to revert back to 35mm black beetle. The plan is to use a TCS T1 decoder in the main body and I have a few LEDs that will fit nicely into the headlight holes. Quote
Glenderg Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Class job Eamonn, and fair play to yer woodworking chap, they look the bizness. Quote
scahalane Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 That's a novel idea and a lovely bit of wood turning. Quote
heirflick Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 great idea eamonn - cant wait to see one painted up! Quote
Weshty Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Love the turned bubbles, they knowk the Kinder eggs into a cocked hat. And well up on the wickam, tidy motoring solution Quote
Flying Scotsman 4472 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Nice idea Eamonn using wood for the bubble. Look forward to seeing the finished wagons. Quote
burnthebox Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Well done Eamon, sculpturing for / in model railways, great idea, Quote
Shinkansen Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Easy to do one, hard to turn them all the same and look consistent... well done to your mate. Nice bit of wood turning. Would love to have a crack at doing Cement bubbles someday. All the components are readily available i.e.: Westy's detail kits, Railtech and Westy's transfers, Dapol prestwin for the Chassis. All that's missing is a Bubble! Nice way around that problem. Quote
Blaine Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Bubble....would there be many takers? Your marketing skills are admirable Mark Quote
Mayner Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Funnily enough the group that built the Malahide & Dromin Junction layout in the late 60s whittled down oversized broom handles for their cement bubbles. Eamonn I like your drive for the inspection car, not sure if its still available Branchlines did very nice compact gearbox that would take the hassle out of meshing the gears and wear would be less critical on those un-brushed bearings. Setting up power pickups would be fairly difficult so a Blackbeetle may be the best solution Quote

Setting up power pickups would be fairly difficult so a Blackbeetle may be the best solution Thanks John,I think I may take your advice and go for black beetle 35mm unit.I did order one from a UK supplier around Christmass but had a strange experience in that the supplier would not send out my order despite some e mails. I ended up having to cancel my order for the BB. Do branch lines do Black beetle units?. Quote
enniscorthyman Posted March 19, 2014 Author Posted March 19, 2014 I finally got around to switching the chassis on A39 to IR 001. I used some of the SSM detail kit such as roof grill and lamp irons,CAWs protection thing on the front, wipers and headlight detail.I also switched over the wiring for the headlights from A39 so she has directional lighting as well as the sound chip. I am delighted with 001 and she slots in for far more work with the stock I have.I have a few photos here and a video of her on the layout. The layout is in a bit of a state as a lot of work will be done on that when the weather heats up a bit. Quote
scahalane Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Lovely shots Eamonn. Des's detailing kit really does add heaps to the model. A small bit of weathering and she'll be spot on. Quote
heirflick Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 well done eamonn -- shes a little beauty! long may she run:tumbsup: Quote
enniscorthyman Posted March 19, 2014 Author Posted March 19, 2014 Yes far too clean. The horns are not great either, but I might not bother changing them as I would like to do a fresh SF body with full detail and IR paint job some time in the future. Quote
ttc0169 Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Sounding excellent and looking great there Eamonn....you definatly have me thinking now...!! Quote
Weshty Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I'm loving that last photo with the A Class coming out of the tunnel. Loads to see, and I like the way you have the fencing butting right up against the level crossing. As well as the rural backdrop, sweet. Quote
Kirley Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Thanks Eamonn for the Video. Your "A" is looking and sounding good. Quote
