A near miss at Tara junction! The yard pilot nearly fouled the points on to the main running lines and narrowly misses the local branch set and the FO Dublin-Ballina service. An investigation is being carried out by the operations manager of Tara Jcn but it seems initial thoughts are an inexperienced driver was to blame!

Evening lads,

Some engineering works have taken place at the North junction area of Tara junction today with a Perway possession of the up and down bi-directional lines,

One of the former Hornby express points was replaced with the better quality PECO point ,

After the point was installed it was time to call up the HOBS train first and this was hauled by 7078

078 is seen here slowly hauling the HOBS train from the ballast loading sidings heading for the worksite.

078 overtakes a slow moving and heavy IWT liner which is being hauled by sister loco-077.

078 arrives at the worksite-the driver awaits further instructions from the Perway inspector,

Tamper 751 has started work on the opposite line.

The HOBS train discharges some ballast while the driver of Tamper 751 awaits more instructions.

An engineers eye view of the completed express point-the inspector has instructed the Tamper driver to move back to allow the HOBS train to discharge ballast over the new point.

<img src="http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=11311"/> This is mighty clever. What's the story with the discharging process? a bit of something laid in place with ballast attached' date=' or is it permanently stuck to the autoballaster? Very impressive sir. R.[/quote']

Thanks Ritchie,

I made those ballast"add on's"with some plastic clear glazing cut to the shape of the HOBS chutes and then just glued some ballast to them,

They can be blu tacked to the wagon but I think it's better just to leave them up against the chutes when the wagons are stationary,it gives a better effect....

A few photos from the nerve centre of Tara Jctn-the MPD....

7077 and 7078 were overdue exams so were recalled this evening for attention

image-2799250012.jpg

A couple of shunting moves were needed to free up the running shed roads to allow both locos access to the shed,

The fitters gather around the locos....while over on the mainline recently released loco 229 gets a trial run

All hands on deck.....!!!

Barry-the expert fitter has the task of checking out loco 7078 for water....note the orange paint on the fan housing....this housing came from loco 087...

image-177732772.jpg

Barry is still hard at it as 229 and a Sulzer 101 pass each other on the mainlines while operating light engine movements...photo taken from the top of the MPD building

After 7078 gets sorted out,Barry turns his attention to 7077,both locos are needed back into traffic as they are popular and powerful according to drivers that have worked them

While Barry was checking the Water levels on 7078-he manged to sneak a photo of other locos receiving attention at the depot....on the right is 234 which has been passed for service while on the left 210 is shutdown-needing a bit more TLC to get her back in action....

Love the detail you put on 078 with it's orange fan casings that it came out of the works with. Did you mod the slate 071s yourself in removing the grab irons yourself, how did you get the finish so smooth with the end result? They look great. Also the large number font on 234 is top notch too, 100% true to the real thing, you have an eye to the finer points.

Thank you Railer,

077 was repainted by myself with the grab rails removed and the area filed and sanded flush with the body-then repainted with the correct shade of yellow, transfers were from the Railtec range.

078 is an original Murphy model grey again with the above modification done,

Loco 234 is sound fitted with the transfers coming from the SSM range....

Whilst i totally approve of the photos, i have a concern over the risk exposure for the chap taking the photo from a height. He may be a friend of barrys. There is no high level railing, nor fall arrest system above the shed, and plastic people could fall to their plastic HSA enquiry at any time.

Barry for President!
