irishthump Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Another silly question... After the Supertrain livery was introduced how long did the Black and Tan livery last for? Would it have taken a long time to repaint all the locos? I would assume there were none by the time the 071s were introduced. Quote

Would it have taken a long time to repaint all the locos? I would assume there were none by the time the 071s were introduced. Not a silly question-but an interesting one.... According to the IRRS journal from February 1977,it states All the 121 class were repainted into Supertrain/golden brown livery by October 1976, Of the 141 class 17 out of 37 had been repainted with 10 out of 12 181 class repainted,B181 and B191 were left to be repainted, I'm guessing that all of the 001 class had been repainted by 1977,and I'd say by the end of 1978 the remaining 141s would have been done,so they would have worked alongside the newly introduced 071s for a few months, Hope this answers your question. enniscorthyman Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 The June 2008 IRRS journal No 166 has a good article on the MK 2D coaches showing photos of their arrival in green undercoat and a trial train of two 141s in black and tan with the green mk2s in tow at Clondalkin. It also shows wonderfull photos of expermental livery that was applied at Inchicore with a overall red and two cream panals, not to mention a all over navy blue with silver window frames, and the golden brown with a white centre where the black went on the final choice. Another suggestion on show was a Duck egg blue with a off white panel between the doors.Another photo shows a black roof and black all the way down to just below the windows where a thin white stripe meets the golden brown.I persume these photos were taken in 1972 priar to the rolling out in the super train livery that was chosen. Glenderg Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 There are loads of IRRS Journals upstairs in Chapters, Parnell Street, but they are about a €10 each. Quote
FrankS Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Thanx, Glenderg, but I'm afraid Parnell Street, is a bit out of my way, and a bit of a walk from my nearest station ~ about 12, 563 miles Cheers, FrankS Quote

I can't find anything on their website. Thanx, FrankS. Hi Frank, the IRRS premises at Hueston station would have a large back issue of old journals. They meet on Tuesday nights If you can make it,and also Cliften Flewit often has them on railtours etc.I had posted up any interisting articules from journals on the old site such as ones on the 121 and 141/181 locos which gave a indept feature.I can repeat here if folks want them. RedRich Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 The IRRS Journals are invaluable for a lot of historical and prototypical info in all eras. Please post up some info when you can Eamonn as it is amazing reading. Rich, Quote
islandbridgejct Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Frank, Martin Bott Books, http://www.bottbooks.com/onlinebookshop/page.asp?tmplt=sys&wbpg=home, has an Irish Transport section and used to have a load of IRRS journals. He sells mail order and the service was good when I used it. Hope that helps. Alan Quote
Killucan2 Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 (edited) Did anyone notice the pic of 080 on the Murphy site?, look at the face and see can anyone spot the mistake??? Edited August 11, 2012 by Killucan2 Quote
josefstadt Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 The upper white line between the orange and black colours shouldn't go below the headlight. It should come down to the bottom corner of the headlight fitting on both sides. A touch of black paint would cure the problem. Quote
RedRich Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 I know we have yet to see a for sale full production 071-111 yet but the IE logo on the bonnet of 077 is too large when compared to the prototype. There seems to be some orange paint bleed around the window frames on the cab side also. Easy enough to correct the paint bleed but a new IE logo could be tricky. Either way cracking models. I just hope the rigid 6 axle bogies won't cause to many headaches when converting to a wider gauge. Rich, Quote
josefstadt Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 If the logo is too large it is only marginally so. See this picture of 073 at Pearse from the 'Railfaneurope.net' site: http://www.railfaneurope.net/pix/ie/diesel/071/dublin09.jpg. It could also be argued that the red stripe across the buffers is set marginally too high. But these are only quibbles when one considers the overall quality of the model. Quote
David Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Think he means the IE logo, not the IR one. The red on the buffer beam is a little on the high side alright. I wouldn't be all that bothered about the red and the logo but the white under the headlight is very noticable. And you can't just paint it black because the white lines coming to it are too low and would lead to nowhere. Hope they sort it... Quote
