Railer Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Whats happening to 7601? It's being kept for the time being along with some other Mk3s in North Wall as part of a VSOE deal. Will probably end up for scrap again at some point. Quote
Jawfin Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Yep, the VSOE will be hauled by DH2 and DH3 after they return from Sri Lanka Quote

jhb171achill Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 If a private operator ever did come here, I'd wonder what the options might be. Doubtless the re gauging of something in the UK, but would this be cost effective? Or, a redundant DD set!!! Quote
BosKonay Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 201s in Stobert livery has been thrown out before Quote
Riversuir226 Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Work began on prepping the Waterford mk3's for scrapping earlier today, windows are smashed on two coaches, first cut made on one. Scrapping seems to be happening behind the former goods shed. Quote
Killucan2 Posted February 18, 2014 Author Posted February 18, 2014 So no one can see, is it cork company as tommy Hamill told me he did not get them. Quote
Riversuir226 Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Cork metal did price it but I don't know if they got it or not. Quote
Glenderg Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 It was a negotiated tender so different firms for different locations would be considered the "most economically advantageous". Quote
Tarabuses Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I passed through Dundalk station yesterday and 7601 looked very lonely standing by itself. Quote
Killucan2 Posted February 19, 2014 Author Posted February 19, 2014 Tender had on it that all scrap mk3s to be removed by end of feb. Quote
Garfield Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 For anyone who would like to see the tender for themselves, it's available online here: http://mytenders.ie/search/show/search_view.aspx?ID=JUL366095 Quote
craven1508 Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 surpless to requirements? make ya sick:mad: if IE had looked after them 15 more years was not a problem. Quote
Glenderg Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 IE put out a tender for refurbishment of 133 MK3 carriages in November 08, so in fairness they did make an effort. The economics mustn't have added up, as the contract was never awarded. Quote
Killucan2 Posted February 19, 2014 Author Posted February 19, 2014 Richie was it not 48, as they were getting them 22s from 07. Quote
Glenderg Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Yeah, you're right. It was 133 for scrapping. [h=3]Short description of the contract or purchase(s)[/h]Iarnrod Eireann have up to 48 Class Mk III vehicles which require refurbishment. The vehicles are aprox.20 years old and we will require complete refurbishment including elements of heavy engineering. Quote
Mayner Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Scrap steel around £100 tonne from scrap merchants small amount of copper and other non-ferrous metal slightly better priced. Not much profit out of say £3500 per coach when you take out cost of labour, cutting, transportation and disposal of a lot of non recyclable insulation plastic. Quote
heirflick Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 my daughter was in Waterford yesterday and sent me this pic........ breakes the heart to see it:(( Quote
