Glenderg Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Any etched brass detail on it dave? There are some major errors on the model. Will hold on to me few bob. Quote
heirflick Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 nice model.....but the cab front is unbelieveably flat Quote
Warbonnet Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 I think the SSM would be a better starting point. Both would need a hell of a lot of work though! Q kits still reigns supreme I guess! Quote
Sentinel281 Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Thanks for sharing the pictures, hard to decide how to go on now, I will have to think about that. Quote
heirflick Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Wrenn - any idea what cahssis he has on the sulzer? Quote
jhb171achill Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 (edited) Is this the way they're delivered... If so, lettering should be green, not black. Bogies and buffers silver. I think the buffer beams were red when in traffic, though not in makers photo. Edited February 14, 2014 by jhb171achill Quote
UP6936 Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Definitely a pronounced bend back below the windows that just doesn't look pronounced enough on the model Quote
WRENNEIRE Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Having Broadband issues, sorry No brass detail Richie, everything is in the mould Priced similar to the A Class S/Fox stuff These have been rushed for the show this weekend Quote
Garfield Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Well, it seems Silver Fox have managed to screw up the cabs of not one, but three of their Irish diesel classes. That's some going. Quote
BosKonay Posted February 14, 2014 Author Posted February 14, 2014 The big couplers suggest an older or railroad chassis? Quote
heirflick Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 The big couplers suggest an older or railroad chassis? would seem so, then it would be dcc ready. Quote
BosKonay Posted February 14, 2014 Author Posted February 14, 2014 Here's a quick comparison shot of Kirleys build of the SSM version Quote
heirflick Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Here's a quick comparison shot of Kirleys build of the SSM version oh christ alive - shes georgous!!! Quote
Blaine Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 Neither model is bang on shape wise, SSM is better but not quite there either Quote
Sentinel281 Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Neither model is bang on shape wise, SSM is better but not quite there either I must admit, you are right. the sharp bend from the producer's photo cannot be seen on neither model plus the snatcher holes are not deep enough in my opinion, espescially when compared to the photo linked above. skinner75 Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Very nice job of the SSM kit there Kirley! Quote
RedRich Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 The buffers on the SF locos are completely wrong and with the cab shape they look nothing like the prototype. Silver Fox do produce some very passable BR models so they can do better. Rich, Quote

A bit different when it comes to the Irish side of things locowise. Quote

Id say if RTR components are used in making the master mould it helps. I recall their model of D0260 'Lion', you could clearly see the lines of the Lima 47 cabs... Quote

I admit the moulded side window is a bit of a pisser (same on the Sulzer btw that I saw in the flesh yesterday) but I'm going to drill that out and use some Terry Chocolate orange box magic. Looks passable to me, although there's a good bit of detail lacking in the bogie dept I will admit. Looks like a 71 to me at least. Quote
patrick Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 These images are from an e mail sent out by Silver Fox a few days ago. Quote
heirflick Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 she looks better in that livery - the bright orange tends to take your attention from the cab shape. Quote
Warbonnet Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Slightly, she looks worst of all in the Black and Tan, the one livery I would want one of these in. I think I'll be ordering from Des if I ever decided that I want one of these. Quote
aclass007 Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I wonder are the engine room windows see through, or just painted like the Silver Fox Metrovicks? Quote
Garfield Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Not impressed by the Sulzer but the G601 looks OK... I wonder are the engine room windows see through, or just painted like the Silver Fox Metrovicks? Painted, apparently. Quote
heirflick Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 agreed pat, she is a little belter! i feel a drop in the savings accouunt comming soon. Quote
Mayner Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Mike Edge prepared the master for the DC Kits G Class, I am not sure if the Silver Fox G is basically a rtr version of the DC Kits loco. Going back to the B101s the engine room windows were clear I spent half an hour inside the engine room of 106 sheltering from a downpour during an IRRS visit to Inchacore Works The Birmingham Sulzers had spacious engine rooms there was room for about 10 people around the engine and generator.
