jhb171achill Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 JHB, only a few wrong way up images so I think that the pints are well deserved. Don't know about the singing though!! That old model is broadly based on a generic GSWR 0.6.0 like a J15. The upside down ones are 51J's. Quote

richrua Posted July 28, 2016 Author Posted July 28, 2016 Hi folks. Thanks for the advice. Between weshtys great instructions and glendergs guide here, Things are ticking along nicely. I think. Quote
richrua Posted July 29, 2016 Author Posted July 29, 2016 This evening the little anchor points boxes along the sole bar proved fiddly. But I got there. Bogies to do tomorrow! Quote
richrua Posted July 30, 2016 Author Posted July 30, 2016 Not quite perfect but I am happy enough for a first try. Nice kit. A couple of the side bracket block dooffers to go back on and a quick spray . Oh and I'll need to grab some NEM couplers. Quote
popeye Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 That look good. How long did it take to build? Quote
richrua Posted July 30, 2016 Author Posted July 30, 2016 I'd say an hour each night the last couple of days. Probably 3-4 hours I reckon Quote
richrua Posted July 31, 2016 Author Posted July 31, 2016 A quick spray, not positive about colour it is brown undercoat then tamiya red brown, then the wagon was released Quote
ttc0169 Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Spot on-blends in well with the loco-well done. Quote
John-r Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Great job, very well finished, it's gave me a great incentive to start my bogie flats . Quote
richrua Posted July 31, 2016 Author Posted July 31, 2016 Thanks folks. Hi David. I just used super glue but the gel type which is a great invention! I would admire anyone who had the skill to solder a brass kit! Quote
popeye Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Looks good all painted up. How are they running over points? Quote
richrua Posted July 31, 2016 Author Posted July 31, 2016 Seems OK over the points but is jumpy on a short curve . I will look at the bogies and check theyre level. Quote
DiveController Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Seems OK over the points but is jumpy on a short curve . I will look at the bogies and check theyre level. Some personal communications from forum members suggested that they can be tricky to get running properly. I suspect the slightest torque over the length of this chassis or imprecise bending would cause issues with smooth running. Getting a short rake made by a forum member first before attempting to match that myself. Looks very well, nice kit. Quote
richrua Posted September 4, 2016 Author Posted September 4, 2016 My passengers must be freezing. I have a total lack of gen vans on the railway, so Im going to rectify that over the next few weeks. Starting with an attempt at a mk1 van conversion with this old Hornby. Bogies are wrong. This will supply the juice to my cravens. Quote
richrua Posted September 7, 2016 Author Posted September 7, 2016 A little bit more done . I need to put in the little square hatches at each end. What are they for ? Quote
DiveController Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 A little bit more done . I need to put in the little square hatches at each end. What are they for ? I think they are filling nozzles for the water tanks for the gennys Quote
Georgeconna Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 RR, Try a 1 - 2mm Washer between the Bogie and the Frame, I find it Improves the running. The brass ones supplied enables the bogie to catch the side frames. Nice work too. I would have me fingers stuck together no doubt. Quote
richrua Posted September 8, 2016 Author Posted September 8, 2016 Thanks for the bogie flat info George. Thanks for the gen info Dive. Are they the same on both sides of the gen van do you know? Bit of door detail last night. here is a photo Quote
DiveController Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Thanks for the gen info Dive. Are they the same on both sides of the gen van do you know? Yes. shame the photo didn't load Quote

richrua Posted September 9, 2016 Author Posted September 9, 2016 Hi folks. Any shots of a roof area of a mk 1 generator van (irish) ? Moving on to the roof vents now. Quote
richrua Posted September 9, 2016 Author Posted September 9, 2016 The fly in the ointment . My old mk1 has riveted bogies making conversion tricky Quote
richrua Posted September 10, 2016 Author Posted September 10, 2016 I sprayed then tidied up the filler again had a few dints in it. Getting there now. Quote
