While the 42 flats are not 100% finished, I have started on the SSM ballast plough van.You can see the difference between the shape ways version which seems a little too long and lacks detail, the SSM version has the side lamps, stove vent and comes with the option of grills for the windows. Two antennas are also supplied for the roof.I might cheat a bit and use the 3d printed shapeways plough that have more detail.

I have put some plastic card in the internal area to help the body sit better on the chassis.I have some photos of what I plan to do with the shape way plough and the brass SSM parts that will hold the thing together.

Nice build there Eamonn, thanks for all the photographs much better than a thousand words. I see no sign of a soldering iron, are you using ACC?

Stay out of the cold shed have a large Paddys or a Bushmills to get warm and a Happy New year. And Des does deserve more credit than he recieves.

Some photos of the 42's so far.

Still not 100% finished yet, with couplings still to be sorted and some painting to be

touched up.

I was reading back through your thread and my wife who had recently been in remission from a rarer form of

"Disambiguation Syndrome"

…."is that real or a model….?"….. has relapsed!

Nice job!

Some more work done today.

I cut some brass tube and glued it to the stove vent and attached the side lamps as well. Some more brass wire was used to make the handwheel on the veranda.

Some adjustments are required for the roof to fit properly as the doorway section of the veranda is a bit high and will need to be cut down a bit.

Thanks for the comments lads.

The double steps have been added and I stuck in the control wheel on a bit of brass rod inside the van. After trying different brass wire I found one that I could bend to fit on the side to represent the break pipe. The roof needed a bit of work to fit the body.

Pure class. anim_thumbsup.gif

I lack the skills and patience to tackle such modelling projects. I know only plastic, paper, ply, spruce and balsa. Metal and I'm totally out of my depth. Hats off, a classy job.

Lovely job Eamon. I'll adjust the instructions for trimming the door partition to let the roof settle. Love the way you've installed the handwheels.

For the brakewheel there is an etch in the doorway that can be used.

The rod for the plough control wheel looks very well. alternatively, one can use some some of the etch outer edging, cut and bent to size.

The most difficult part of this build so far has been the hand rails which I got done today.I have also started back at the Wickham inspection car which I intended to power, alas she will not move.I just built the seats etc, however the way I did it may not be correct as I lost the original instructions.

A small update.lamp irons are glued on to the veranda end and I have stuck on a bit of scrap brass to represent break rigging.

I stuck in some seats into the lookouts as well. The seats are from the Dapol Deltic kit.

The Wickham inspection car has had the roof touched up.Between storms and cold it's bloody hard to get to the shed to get much work done this week.
