Can someone please explain what is going on here? Why would the RPSI want a loco looking like this? Looks the business tho.

Trial runnings on the mainline

it will be put onto original 1961 spec grey and yellow once trials are completed

This livery has put a massive smile on my face I won’t lie

But why the need then to give her an IE look? I mean, she will presumably retain certification in the original yellow and grey livery, so why couldn't she be certified like that? I am kind of wondering is there some intention to run her in IE revenue service somehow? Maybe the whole thing was just to give some apprentices in Inchicore a go of a spray gun and I'm overthinking things!

Dear IE.

Please stop with the teasing, and just paint some God damn 201's like this!

Now!

A 121 got this livery before an 201

im sure some regard that as a joke 🤣

although I’m not sure I like it as much on the 201

Tis no different to the time 216 was bright green before going blue while on trials and the same is what's happening to 134. She will need to undergo driver training and such so while she undergoes those, she'll be in temporary grey.

there is already a reason to re-run the 121s. What a fantastic looking livery on the locomotive

this has to go as one of the most obscure but fantastic livery combos in Irish rail history

Its like a loco from a Bond movie, militaristic and menacing looking.

Sorry the long 201 'Peat Briquette' doesn't blow my skirt up in any livery. If the ICR yoyo's takeover the Cork and Belfast routes retiring the 201s to freight, they may well end up in this smart freight grey livery.

Long may the 201 loco haul passenger services, IE have begun looking at new railcar units for the Enterprise service beginning 2027/2028,  hopefully no rush to change the 201 services to Cork for another 15 years or so

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and suspect that not one person will agree with me; I would love to see an ICR in black'n'tan, or 1950s green, snails an'all...!  Or a NIR 4k in UTA green..

Blue and Creme 4ks and flying snail ICRs, would never happen because it would look confusing to the millennial train user but still😭😭

What a pity the ITG didn't paint one of their As in that paint scheme, it would look great in those colours.

Or this livery

as I said on the Duggan port layout thread, the two liveries really do share the same aesthetic. Only issue is I think IE like liveries similar to there own on the mainline (I remember IR did not want the RPSI to use black n tan on there mk2 as it looked to similar to the livery at that time) or something along those lines

but we’re lucky to have A39R going as it is, never mind getting A3r so we will happily accept black n tan!

In reality, bogies and everything "below" would also be grey in that livery...

To each his own, I would say but I doubt that would be universally liked.

I doubt that with all the 201s out of service and railcars on secondary lines. Good way to burn her out and not so many spares left now even if IE did the maintenance. She could be pair with a 141😉

That variant is hideous although it could be modernized a bit to look all right. Honestly I hate these fictitious liveries though
