South Dublin Model Railway Club - 50 Years (1975 -2025)

This year the South Dublin Model Model Railway Club is celebrating 50 years in existence.

From humble beginnings of a few like minded individuals coming together in a members workshop in Rathmines to where we are today in our purpose built club rooms in Knocklyon in Dublin.

Our Exhibition in Blackrock College this year will have added significance and we are planning on it being our biggest and best show yet.

Dates of our show: October 25th,26th & 27th.

A fantastic achievement by the SDMRC, and what amazing club rooms they established too. Really are a joy to visit. 

From an IRM perspective we are especially grateful to the club and Paul in particular for giving us a spot in their Blackrock show so we could advertise our idea of doing a CIE Ballast Hopper in OO gauge back in October 2015. Not many people knew us then, but we have since grown a bit....

Now here we are 10 years later as those little acorns grew, and we are looking forward to marking our 10th anniversary further with the club at the show!

To mark the 50th Anniversary milestone we have commissioned the team at Accurascale to produce a unique wagon. Limited to 200 pieces, these will be making their way to our shores soon and I will confirm when they arrive - a short clip of final Quality checks before they ship.

Well, I'm just off to Deutschland to celebrate the centenary of the German Class "01" Pacifics on a six day tour.

As I leave kits are arriving to top up my stock ready for the  Show, so it's a good time to speak up if there's any of my wagons which you need.

I'll also be selling some of a huge collection of Irish Railway books given to the IRRS, London. I have almost everything published on the subject and in astonishingly almost mint  condition. If there's a hard top fill gap in your library, just PM me and I'll have a look.

Keep up the modelling while I'm playing with big trains - I want to have something to look at when I get back.
