Noticed some black roofed Mk 3's in his Westport folder

Looks like the Restaurant or Genny behind the 201 has a black roof also

Any other Black roofed pics out there?

I think there was one in Model Rail a few years back when they did an article on the IE mk3's, as far as I can remember anyway:D

Dave they are actually a mid to dark grey and would only have been applied to the first class coaches. The EGV may look like it has a black roof but it's dirt and a trick of the light. Here's a pic of a first in Waterford in 2002 with a grey roof.

26735 is a stores oil wagon, the 'D' on the tank stands for diesel oil,

I remember the wagon being part of the ESSO oil train-also in the picture,

The wagon was used in later years to transport diesel to the Bus Eireann depot in Ballina and was often part of the 20:45 Northwall-Ballina liner returning when empty on the 22:10 Ballina-Northwall liner, sometimes it was the only wagon behind an 071 loco from Ballina-Claremorris travelling at only 35mph,

The wagon would also have been used along with others for the Alexandra rd-Inchicore fuel oil transfer which used to supply the large storage tanks at Inchicore works.

Just an up-date to my Flickr collection, I am still acquiring negatives and slides as and when I can.

One small point since FLICKR have re-designed the site the Photostream header no longer displays the various individual Collections; you can find these by hovering the cursor over the 3 white dots on the right hand side of the screen and then clicking on Collections. Then click on the Irish one.

I have uploaded a fair amount of Irish material to Flickr over the last couple of months. This is the collection link then click on an album Icon.

Thanks to my good friend Dave Dunn of the Armstrong Railway Photographic Trust I have his permission to upload material from the ARPT Archive. The Trust mainly concerns itself with the GB railways but there is a fair amount of Archive Irish material in the collections as a fair number of the photographers visited Ireland. I have already added most of the Narrow Gauge views and am working through the 'standard' gauge material. Many of the captions have had to be amended as the information on the negatives was inaccurate or incomplete. I have added some to the 'Locations Unknown' Album as I have been unable to determine the location.

Should any of the captions be wrong or you can identify any please put a note on the thread

Amazing collection. I really enjoyed the Waterford collections especially the older shots. I love the shot of the cement bubble in Limerick with some of the body pieces missing.

A quick note of gratitude to Ernie and everyone else that shares their work on the site so freely- I for one greatly appreciate the time you put in in the background; uploading, editing, and researching the photos. It is such a brilliant resource and I hope to be referencing back for many years to come. Well done!

I have been uploading a few more images from the Armstrong Railway Photographic Trust courtesy of Dave Dunn. This is a JW Armstrong original listed as Claremorris but it isn't! Any ideas.

Just a quick up-date on the Archive, I have had problems with images being snipped, copied and even prints sold from some of the England/Scotland/Wales collections and this has upset some of the photographers/copyright holders. I don't need this hassle and I also don't want to cause distress to the copyright holders particularly at their time of life.

I have had no problems with the Irish Archive so this one will continue with (hopefully) new material from time to time. The other Archives (Isle of Man & Spain excepted) have been closed.

Well done, Ernie.

Your work is much appreciated by everyone. Those who misuse the copyright of others are a curse to serious researchers (and browsing enthusiasts) as it leads to collections being shut away even from those who have genuine reason for viewing.

Hopefully, you will remain able to share as mentioned in your post. Very many thanks.

Its probably just Flickr, I've just been on and its working OK. Holidays and weekends see a large increase in 'hits' so it may just have been heavy 'traffic'. There have been over 8,000 hits today on the 4,000 odd remaining images, compared to 10,500 for all yesterday on 32,000 plus.

I have gradually added more of the JW Armstrong images from the Armstrong Railway Photographic Trust (many thanks to them for permission to use.)

This one 1164-2 Station from train Ireland (JW Armstrong) 178

of a Tablet Catcher in operation needs the location identified,; not much to go on unfortunately.
