Galteemore Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 (edited) At work so don’t have my books with me. Looks a bit like Allan valve gear - and the engine has a bit of a ‘Haydock Foundry’ look like ‘Bellerophon’. It’s also a little like a Prussian T3…. Will check later ….and that looks like a WLWR 0-6-0 at stage left…. Edited February 10, 2022 by Galteemore 2 Quote
Irishswissernie Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 WLR 42, Hawthorn of Leith 284 Jun 1862, originally 0-6-0t used on construction of Anglesey Central Railway and then on Neath & Brecon Railway. Bought by WLR in 1882 and re-gauged to 5'-3' Rear coupling rods removed to enable it to work tight curves in Limerick Yards and then worked at Fenit. Withdrawn in 1901. Info from Locos of the G&SWR page 223 where there is a great deal more info and a drawing as a cabless 0-6-0t in Neath & Brecon Days 3 1 Quote

Irishswissernie Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 Normal service hopefully now resumed. First view is at Ennis but at the less photographed Limerick end of the station 1958 or 1959 I have also a fair number of new Cavan & Leitrim views so have uploaded half a dozen to flickr today including this rather different image taken from up a pole at the north end so hopefully some new details of the infrastructure. The third view is of the old carriage shed sidings dumping ground but with a distant view of the rear of the loco shed/works. 9 Quote
BSGSV Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 Looks like a dead C class behind 186 at Ennis. 2 Quote

Galteemore Posted February 28, 2022 Posted February 28, 2022 (edited) Lovely. Disreputable perhaps but obviously fitted or at least piped. At this stage in 1958 the SLNC still slumbered awaiting auction - as this train passes Carrignagat, the rusty, grass grown rails will still be in place….although the junction was disconnected fairly quickly post closure. Mayner Posted February 28, 2022 Posted February 28, 2022 The "Disreputable Wagon" is probably an ex GSWR or ex GNR replacement for recently withdrawn ex MGWR Meat Vans used for 'perishable" traffic, its possible the fitted "Green H Vans" replaced pre-amalgamation stock for this traffic. There is a 1964 H C Casserley photo of B149 leading the UP Night Mail through Ballysodare the train is made up of a Black & Tan 4w Heating and Luggage Van, what appears to be an ex-GSWR Bogie Coach and Bogie Mail Van in late 1950s green followed by three fitted H Vans (no goods brake). Ex-MGWR Meat Vans appear to have been use possibly for fish traffic from Sligo and Ballina into the mid/late 1950s 655 is probably acting as station pilot making up or breaking down a Mail Train. There are similar 1956 (F W Shuttleworth) photos of 659 shunting the Sligo Mail which included a MGWR 6w Mail Van & Meat Van dating from the 1880s sandwiched between a pair of recently introduced Bullied 4w Passenger Vans. The Shuttleworth photos inspired me to produce kits of CIE & MGWR non-passenger stock. 1 1 Quote

Irishswissernie Posted March 3, 2022 Posted March 3, 2022 (edited) I succeeded at the weekend in successfully bidding for the late Roy Dennison's Irish colour slides to go with the 200 odd negatives of his I acquired some 3 months ago. I will put these 7 on as one upload as they show the sequence at Ballinascarthy of the last regular steam working on the old CBSC (excluding Albert Quay) and the last beet train off the T&C.
