popeye Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Really beautiful top class work. The ballast is so realistic 1 Quote
David Holman Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 Subtlety personified and no small task either. Ever thought of doing a small photographic diorama? Just a piece of well ballasted and weathered track, like a siding with some surrounding weeds and a photographer backscene. Remove the tension locks and then pose a wagon. Suspect there could be more than a few who will struggle to decide whether it is a model or the real thing, me included. 1 1 Quote

I have a board here, like you've suggested, but it could do with some tidying up. Fixing a back scene, would be straightforward enough, with very little work involved. Thanks for the positive comment, it's very much appreciated. 1 Quote
David Holman Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 My pleasure. Good modelling deserves a wider audience. Martyn Welch does just this in his Art of Weathering book. 2 Quote
RedRich Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 Excellent as usual Jason. I think the background research and looking through countless photos deserves mention also as preparation is half the job. Rich 2 1 Quote
JasonB Posted December 10, 2021 Author Posted December 10, 2021 So, after eventually finishing my ballast wagons, the next obvious step was to tackle my plough van's. 14 4 Quote

JasonB Posted December 19, 2021 Author Posted December 19, 2021 Evening guys, I've just started some work on this Plaxton Bus Eireann single decker. Rather than just plonking it on the layout as it is, I've decided to try make it look that little more interesting. So, the plan of action is... Paint the interior and maybe the wheels. Add a driver and passengers. Cut the doors in half and refit, to appear as if they're open. And finally, I will need to rummage through the spares box and knock up some mirrors. 5 1 Quote
JasonB Posted December 30, 2021 Author Posted December 30, 2021 Job done. The most time consuming part of this little project, was trying to cut the doors without causing any noticeable damage. Fitting them back in place, in an open position was also a pain, but worth it. The mirrors also turned out ok. Why the model hadn't got any in the first place is anyone's guess. Adding the passengers and driver has made a big difference. Makes for an interesting scene. Wheels were also painted and weathered, and given a blast of matt varnish. Quite happy with how this has turned out. 17 1 1 Quote
Rob Posted January 3, 2022 Posted January 3, 2022 Wow! Only saw this now- looks excellent. It was a lot of hard work by the look of it but really makes a big difference. Well done 1 Quote

Jaz avalley Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 Nice upgrade, they look much nicer on the layout with figures onboard rather than ghost vehicles, I particularly like the effort on the doors, great upgrade. 1 Quote

Weathering has been kept to a minimum, with some light streaking and rust applied. Someone already said it, but I wholeheartedly agree a light weathering like this is a serious upgrade, they photograph much better, the whole toy model look has gone, and photographed with the clunky connectors out of sight these will totally look the part, excel, ent upgrade. I do not upgrade to kadees on all my stock either, yes it looks better but it gets so tedious.I just use the better upgrades for close ups. Well worth popping a dirty load in that bucket, some Ballast and PVA glue can dry out making the load look like wet ballast, excellent upgrade. apologies for poor typing edited to correct Edited January 13, 2022 by Jaz avalley 1 1 Quote

But things are beginning to take shape nicely. Well thought out, sorry the comment is against something earlier, but your approach is not something I have seen previously, and I love innovation 2 Quote
JasonB Posted February 19, 2022 Author Posted February 19, 2022 Decided to add a little more detail to my SSM crossing gates, earlier today. First job, was to cut four new pillars to the size required. Supports and hinges were then added to two of the four pillars. Then, it was on to painting. Job done. 10 1 4 Quote
