Bog Road Level Crossing

Bog Road Level Crossing was the last LC before Youghal,on the Cobh Junction-Youghal line.This layout will be on show at the Wexford Model Railway clubs Easter show this Weekend.The layout is based on the photo in the background,taken in summer of  1978,just before the regular goods trains ceased.I plan to run sound chipped A and C class as well as a 141.Thanks to Richard Wall for the photo.

Love this! Was back in Ireland last week and showed my Dad the pics without telling him where the model was of. Straight away he said ‘Youghal branch ‘! Great model

Love the black and white pictures too. Have often pondered the idea of doing a layout this way - for one thing the name would easy, it would have to be Monachrome. Even sounds Irish.

On one level, it is merely a different case of 50 shades of grey (!); however, the biggest problem is foliage, as I've yet to find any source of static grass fibres or scenic foam. One day maybe and until then maybe we should follow Eamonn's lead and try photographing our own layouts in black and white?

I am stuck for space myself.This layout resides in the Attic.

My attic is a cut roof with tons of space but the previous owner thought it a good idea to relocate the trap door to the back bedroom and I've no plans to start climbing in and out of there. My next project, if I ever start, will be an n gauge layout!

Some work done today with repairs to the road surface on the LC itself and reballasting of new track that replaced a bad dip that caused derailments.

I love that layout - a little cameo. It absolutely oozes atmosphere. The weathering on the tatty oul hut is very realistic and really adds atmosphere.....

Are the level crossing gates sudeo scale model kits or are they scratch built and what is the length of the layout.

Hi the LC gates are scratch  built with parts from IFM kit.The layout is 8 x 3 roughly.

just wondering what radius of curve you are using on this layout as I am also trying to build into very limited space and this isnt a million miles away from the space ive got available.

Thanks Sean,from memory I used a mixture of 3rd radius set track and Peco flex track.It was a problem as I have two bridges on either  side of layout and it took some trial and error as eventuality I got a mk3 coach to fit with little to spare.

cheers, i dont suppose you chanced first radius at all? I wouldnt mind if it looked crap going around it as the curve would be mostly hidden as long as it did actually safely go around.

I could have used 1st radius but use whatever makes life easier  for you.For the space I had to work with I wanted a nice gradual curve.As my layout was constructed to fit in my car,it was difficult  enough to get everything  to fit.
