Its all worked out on paper first using photo's, Google earth, and autocad. It would be very difficult to get the scale right on the fly. I'm always trying to get a feel for the entire monster this layout is going to be, but Scahalane does such a nice job of teasing us with carefully poised shots! That inclined terrace is just one example. Really want to see whats up the hill. The quality of the modelling thus far suggests if you laid on busses to scahalanes gaff for a looksee, they'd be fully booked. [same for kirley junction too!] R. G Used to be one of my favourite spots watching a B141 and a couple of laminates threading its way across from Glanmire Road onto the old Cork & Youghal formation. I haven't ventured up into the attic since April due to work commitments and an adverse reaction to slogging it out in a dark roof space while the sun shines outside. As Autumn approaches I hope to rectify that in the mean time here's a few shots I took with my phone cam last April, sorry about the quality. When last up there I got a start into building up the landscape with a cliff face embankments and cuttings. I used blue foam for the cliff face shaping it with a knife and building up the colour with layers of paint washes. I followed this guys tutorial on how to do it and after a bit of trial and error I was quite pleased with the results. Check out his video here: http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/9227 The embankments are just plaster bandages painted at the moment but eventually they'll have a good coverage of static grass. The walls are made from photo's turned into textures then printed and glued onto card. The windows and doors etc are made from plastic card as are the roof tiles. The corrugated roof is made from pressed tin foil. I thought I'd through in a few photo's of how it looked in 1990, the era I'm basing it on compared to how it looks today.
