Dunluce Castle Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 Thank you Kirley. Hello everyone, I got some handrails for the engine at model rail Scotland (which was a fantastic show btw) and put them on yesterday, apart from that the engine still looks the same, I'm now just waiting for some good wether then I can spray a primer onto her. Yesterday I also started this NCC coal wagon she is scratch built with platicard and some whitemetal buffers and axeboxes. I got a thin sheet of brass at my local craft store surprisingly enough and made the brake lever out of it, it turned out rather well so I'll be using the same method with my other wagons. School will delay this until next weekend, so until then Nelson Quote

Garfield Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Is there anway we could make this an a level module? I wish i had this level of dedication when i was nelsons age..... savage work young man, greatness beckons. My sentiments exactly... superb modelling! Quote
Mike 84C Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Great work Nelson! I think the cleanliness of your construction is excellent. Keep em coming! Quote
Dave Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 That is truly stunning Nelson, so crisp with great attention to detail. Greatness is already here. Well done young man. Quote
enniscorthyman Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 That's very impressive work Nelson, Detail is super, well done. Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted March 3, 2015 Author Posted March 3, 2015 Thank you gentlemen for your comments, I appreciate them a lot. Quote
David Holman Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Lovely work AND a brass brake lever... First step towards etched brass perhaps? There again, when a model turns out this well, who cares what it is made of! Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted March 4, 2015 Author Posted March 4, 2015 Thanks David ^ Hello everyone, I know I said it would be next week until I get the chance to model, but no homework = free modelling time so I got some free hours and finished this one off, some may say the weathering is too much but I like it and it's in it's last year of service with the UTA anyway. Thanks Nelson Quote
burnthebox Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Nelson, as always your craftsmanship astounds me, fantastic piece of work, well done sir Quote
RedRich Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Huge respect Nelson. Young folks your age are the future of the hobby, we are in safe hand's. That's an excellent example of weathering and what makes it more remarkable is the fact the wagon is scratch built. I really enjoy watching your workbench and you are a very modest young man to go with the talent. Rich, Quote
Hunslet 102 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Superb workmanship as always Nelson, your eye for detail and dedication is always rewarded and reflected in your models, well done Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted March 4, 2015 Author Posted March 4, 2015 Cor, thank you very much for the comments gentlemen, I'm always astonished by your responses from everyone, to me I believe without you guys I wouldn't be very good at what I do... Quote
richrua Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Brillo man. You have some knack with the plasticard! well done. Quote
jhb171achill Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 The weathering is spot on, Nelson. In late UTA days - which you mention as your period, no amount of weathering is too much; any wagons remaining in traffic were almost all, cosmetically speaking, in as awful a state as anything on rails ever has been! Quote
Glenderg Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Nelson, I'm shocked at what you have done. It does not represent the fine pin striped attributes of the board members of the BCDR / GNRI / NCC / UTA in their fine suits. You are hereby struck from their list of wagons builders and will live in a pox house for your days. Honourable Lord Monty, First Lord of Glenderg. Tut bloody Tut. Quote
jhb171achill Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Mr Nelson, as Chairman of the LNER, I offer you a job as head of our wagon building works. I know there's a bit of a commute involved though, and do remember we are narrow gauge over here...... Quote
Garfield Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 It's final results like this that make this thread one of my favourite workbenches on the forum... flawless work there, Nelson, keep it up! Quote
Broithe Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Great stuff on here.... The puppy teaches the old dogs new tricks. Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted March 5, 2015 Author Posted March 5, 2015 It's always very pleasant to come home and read all these great comments, I appreciate them alot, thank you everyone! Quote
scahalane Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Lovely bit of scratch building and a very professional finish with the weathering, well done. Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted March 7, 2015 Author Posted March 7, 2015 Thank you ^ Hello everyone, This is the latest wagon to emerge from the wagon works, hopefully it'll be passed onto the paint department later today and visit the weathering department tomorrow. Thanks Nelson Quote
Mike 84C Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Hey Nelson, that is rather cool and very different what a distinctive prototype, very crisply modelled. Look good when its painted and decaled. Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 Thank you Mike ^ I've finished the 6 wheeler and took pictures of them both outside. Thanks Nelson Quote
Warbonnet Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Lovely stuff Nelson, unusual looking wagons always look cool! Quote
Kirley Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Great realistic finish Nelson, you can be proud of your work. Quote
jhb171achill Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Excellent, top quality stuff. As others commented, it's always very refreshing to see unusual designs of wagons. May I ask what the prototype is, or if it's your own design it is just as realistic as a prototypical model! Quote
Dunluce Castle Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 Thank you very much everyone ^ JB she's a 6 wheeler from the Belfast Northern Counties Railway, I believe it's just a general purpose wagon so what it carried who knows.... Quote
David Holman Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Good modelling Nelson, but the subtlety of the finish is what really sets it off. Hard to believe it is 4mm scale. Quote
popeye Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Love the wagons. Beautiful paint job, i thought they were real at first. Quote
IrishN Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Excellent work Nelson, I'm in awe, pure skill Well done Quote
