thewanderer Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Evening all, 206 was released to traffic on Monday 23rd February in its brand new striking "Enterprise" livery when it went L.E. from Inchicore to Kildare to take over the 1130 Waterford - Ballina Ety. Timber. It caught everybody out as it was rumoured to be allocated to the 0935 IWT Liner from North Wall but 218 worked this instead. On Wednesday 25th, it returned from the West of Ireland with the 1140 Ballina - North Wall IWT Liner and I photographed it at Portarlington and Killenard. Today's update also contains photos from Corroy near Ballina from contributor TTC169. Click http://smu.gs/1DbdYzo to view. Quote
Noel Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Now that I can see the finished livery I don't really like it for two reasons, it is not directionally symmetrical and too wavy for my personal taste. If there was only one cab and the loco ran only in the direction it is travelling it looks quite striking (i.e. a large cat of prey with its mane and whiskers flying). Trains really only suited to horizontally linear livery patterns. Quote
Railer Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 When the loco is on Enterprise duty it always is facing the same way, the no2 end livery is designed to match the coaching stock. The no1 end never ends up facing the coaching stock. Quote
jhb171achill Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I would agree with both. It's all very well when they match a loco to a train but hit'n'miss otherwise. Why they can't just keep everything orange and black I don't know! :-) Quote
Railer Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 (edited) Anyone get it's full EVN. I can see it on the mid sole bar. From what I can gather it should be 92 60 0310206-x, don't know it's check number. 0110 201s are non push pull 0210 201s are push pull, autocoupler capable 0310 201s are push pull, autocoupler capable with NIR package. Don't know if 208 and 209 will be 92 70 or 92 60. Edited February 25, 2015 by Railer Quote
jhb171achill Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 92 60 0310 206-4 Is that including the international dialling code? When I rang it, I got nothing. So I reckon that's it's fax number. Quote
Railer Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 92 60 0310 206-4 Thanks, I have a spread sheet with the full EVNs for all the 071s, 201s and surviving BGMs but can't find it now. Quote
Glenderg Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Gotta love these nonsense liveries. "Lets add black strip along the middle" "And a bit of wibbly wobbly wonder thats not in either green, gold, blue or red" Have CIE ever heard of photoshop and that people might be able to mock up this crap in minature and virtual before you commit an entire paint shop in inchicore? Hey CIE, YOU NEED SOME HELP? Yeah, orange as a base colour for years seems like a decent political gesture? Quote
Railer Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I actually really like this livery. I'm fed up with all the green and silver everywhere. The green 29ks look god awful and the new tricolour logo is so tacky looking, they look like a special Paddy's Day train. This is something fresh and new and a step out of the comfort zone for once. Quote
jhb171achill Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I have to say that while I've seen better liveries overall - really, artistically speaking, nothing since the orange / black era has proved lasting and strong enough as a brand - this one's a lot better than the ghastly drabness the Enterprise has had in all its (few!) variations since inception.... Quote
Riversuir226 Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 (edited) Really like it, the livery looks quite stylish but not sure about the warning panel on the cab fronts. In terms of modern liveries the simplicity of the orange & black will never be beaten in my book. Edited February 26, 2015 by Riversuir226 Quote
Flying Scotsman 4472 Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 A little touch of the Hunslet maroon/red and some De Dietrich Enterprise purple. What a fantastic modern livery to bring the Enterprise into the 21 century. I wonder who takes the credit for it NIR or IE Quote
hurricanemk1c Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 A quick photo of it pasing Kildare yesterday - more to follow Quote
DiveController Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Well, we wondered how long it would be before it would be turned 'the wrong way round'. I think it looks as ridiculous as the new number. Think this was always going to be a love it (those paid for 'designing' it) or hate it livery (the rest of us,…for the most part) Quote

Think this was always going to be a love it (those paid for 'designing' it) or hate it livery (the rest of us,…for the most part) I think that's a wee bit disingenuous... it's a 'love it or hate it' livery alright, but a lot of enthusiasts are in the 'love it' camp. Personally, I think it looks good. Quote

Railer Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Well, we wondered how long it would be before it would be turned 'the wrong way round'. It's still the "right way", no2 end facing Heuston/Connolly like all the push pull 201s. Quote
hurricanemk1c Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 It's still the "right way", no2 end facing Heuston/Connolly like all the push pull 201s. Correct - it's just that is has to haul wagons, not push them Quote

skinner75 Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Almost '"dazzle ships".... Nah, that'd be the new Wexford Bus livery! Quote
RedRich Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 If a loco could talk it would say nah don't like it. Give it a livery it deserves, not something you would see on the walls of a junior infants class room. Rich, Quote
minister_for_hardship Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Thought it nice at the start as a stand alone livery, but wondering how an asymetric livery is going to match up to rolling stock. Hate those stupid Euro bar-code/phone numbers. Quote
hurricanemk1c Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I think it'll look good as a complete set, as long as the Enterprise DBFO gets the same pattern at the end Quote

Noel Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Oh what have they done? just when you thought it could,nt get worse!Rich you have hit the nail on the head. Well I presume that the design was commissioned by NIR as its their loco, and IR/IE were only the guys who painted it. Quote

burnthebox Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Are you sure a few " graffiti artists " didn't get in during the night, having just found a blank canvas Quote
Noel Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 206 is an IE owned loco. Ah ok. I have never fully understand the business logic and structure of the 'Enterprise' service. Why is it still jointly operated by two companies? Would it not be better for IE and NIR to operate their own services on the Dublin/Belfast route in the interests of competition. OR Splitting the rail network from the operators, by letting the two states own and operate the track network but allowing private rail companies operate services which might possibly deliver a better service. (i.e. state ownership of the network and privatised operators). Or am I off the wall? Quote
Noel Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Or am I off the wall? Yes :-) Meant, am I 'totally' off the wall? Quote
