Mayner Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Definitely lifting architectural and structural modelling to a whole new level, the sheer scale of the structures is breathtaking. I hope you find space to build a layout or at least a diorama of Cork Loco. What's next the houses , shops & pubs on the lower Glanmire Road with Summerhill as a background? Quote
Dave Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Truly stunning, well done great attention to detail. Quote
ttc0169 Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 :tumbsup:It sure is a work of art, really captures the heavy structure of the girder bridge, look forward to the finished product.....well done.. Quote
Hunslet 102 Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 That is one superb looking girder bridge, stunning detail and attention to detail and workmanship, just brilliant Quote
scahalane Posted March 19, 2013 Author Posted March 19, 2013 Finished painting the girder bridge and added some printed decals. Should look better when ballasted and the street scene below added. Hope you like. Quote
Portoman Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 All I can say is wow !! Looks better than the real bridge . Excellent work:cheers: Quote
Weshty Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 To call it faultless would be to insult it. Really beautiful modelling work. The rivet work must have brought you close to weeping. The billboards really finish it off. I'm feeling homesick already! Quote
Guest hidden-agenda Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Brilliant and a credit to you for the detail. Quote
Dave Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Truly incredible work, love the rivet detail the billboards set it off. Well done Quote
Kirley Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 From the girder work to the rivets to the posters to the lights just excellent. Quote
Shinkansen Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Incredible work as always. The Decals/bill boards are a lovely finishing touch Quote
scahalane Posted May 14, 2013 Author Posted May 14, 2013 I had a rake of MIR ammonia's and 2 barrier wagons I'd been meaning to build for quiet a while so finally got around to it. These wagons bring back some happy memories of the real thing thundering past my parents house in Glounthaune. I have to say Ian (MIR) did a fantastic job capturing the look and feel of them and the tankers required very little extra work. I just added a little c-channel to the back of each side similar to the real thing. The barrier wagon however required a little bit more work, the tank was a little too long and had to be shortened a bit. I also scratch built the protective cage as the brass assembly supplied was a bit flat and inaccurate. The decals were a bit on the over sized so I got Des (studio scale models) to make some up for me, and he did a great job. All that's left is some weathering and a proper engine for my a-class as the lima one has neigh chance of moving this lot, hope you like. Quote
Glenderg Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I also scratch built the protective cage as the brass assembly supplied was a bit flat and inaccurate. The decals were a bit on the over sized so I got Des (studio scale models) to make some up for me, and he did a great job. Really tasty work on the cage, best i've ever seen bar none. The brass etches - ladders and such - were they part of the original kit or custom? Either way it's stunning. And Des is as handy as a small pot when it comes to decal/brass kit emergencies! The old Lima's take an awful lot of slagging "wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding" etc., but stripped down and rebuilt Terminator style, they are reliable ol' workhorses. Any plans to dirty the rake up? Sure you'd do a tidy job of that too! Richie. Quote
Sentinel281 Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Wow, really stunning, great work. Congratulations, the rake looks just... perfect! I love the work you have done in upgrading the barrier wagons. Alas the MIR range ran out of production. Thanks for sharing your pictures. Quote
heirflick Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 beautiful work.....love the wagons, but im stone mad about the A class... Quote
BosKonay Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Absolutely gobsmackingly gorgeous! Should be on display in a gallery!! Quote
Kirley Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Great finish to these models with your added details making them more lifelike. Alas the demise of MIR, I wonder how many unmade kits are out there? Quote

Sure you'd do a tidy job of that too! Richie. All the brass etched parts except the corner castings were from bits and bobs I had lying around, a lot of the stuff I use comes from http://www.scalelink.co.uk a great resource for brass mesh etc. And yes she will be getting a fair bashing from the old weathering stick. Shinkansen Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Tasty work as always lad. The Ammonia rake and A-class look the 'bees knees', well done Quote
BabyGM Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Beautiful work , however I can't keep my eyes off that A Class Quote
Sulzer201 Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Amazing work, that train really is stunning scahalane. Quote
enniscorthyman Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Brilliant work there, brings back the memory's of these trains in the 90s when I did a good bit of traveling up to Dublin to meet the bird and crossing at Bray and Graystones. Quote
