Hi Kevin

For now you can secure your order with €50 per loco ordered.

Once we have a production slot secured in the 2019 schedule we’ll publish the timeline and the deadline for orders to be paid up if you want to have them shipped out on arrival.

Otherwise you can deposit funds using bank or card or PayPal as you wish in the mean time on any schedule you wish.

Every time a payment comes in be sure to use the order ID as the reference and we’ll send you a receipt for each payment as well as a periodic statement.

Hope that helps!

BTW anyone know the numbers of the last running A class in IR ownership. I think 051 or 056 off top of my head.

It would be interesting to know the last six, which presumably included 3, 15 and 39. I think - but can't be certain without delving into IRRS journals (and I've no time this morning!) that the final six went more or less togetherness?

Great to see 3 & 39 preserved in working, or near-to-working order, thanks to the tremendous efforts of the ITG.

The following is taken from, Irish Railways Traction & Travel, by Peter Jones & Andrew Marshall..... 003, 012, 015, 039, 055, 058 are listed as the last six stopped in 1995... 005 and 051 were also stopped, slightly earlier in 1995.... 039 being the final one stopped, on the 23/9/95

Can you make all payments using PayPal?

Stephen

Yes we can take manual part payment using Bank Transfer, Paypal and Credit/Debit card (the first two you can send to us, the latter we need to send you a demand)

We understand and appreciate that, just like for us, the A is a big investment and we'd all love them all! So we're taking on the admin and overhead to make things are easy and spread out as possible!

Any questions at all just ask!

Hi Colin

to order now and pay a deposit just order on the website and at checkout choose bank transfer as payment method

You’ll then get an invoice with our bank details and just send the deposit amounts using your order ID as reference.

You can then pay as suits and we’ll send you a receipt for each payment.

Hope that’s clear!

Suitable rolling stock could vary from GNR K15s in green or black’n’tan, to (new!) Cravens, a few surviving wooden GSWR corridor bogies, various varieties of laminates and Park Royals, and surviving Bredins and CIE 1951-3 stock (broadly modelled on Bredins).

Full width detailed CIE-built early 50's rolling stock would be massive and do wonders to open up this era to modelers.  Most of this wooden stock lasted at least the next 20 years right up until Supertrain, or at least over 50% of the IRM A class liveries

Hopefully in the fullness of time, but for now I’m very content that the gaping hole in Irish RTR model locos will be filled over the next year or so. Looking at the age demographic active in clubs and attending shows, it seems many would have travelled on Irish railways before the modern era that super train heralded, along with modern bogie freight. The next gap in quality RTR rolling stock seems pre 1972.

Or 2008 and up...🤐. No off the shelf DDs or Mk4s even thouse we have the RTR locos for them.

But yeah there is alot of 1950-60s rolling stock that could do with some IRM TLC.

Next most important is a BR van for all those lovely cravens out there and also for the weed sprayer.

Probably IRM have offered to print “MasterCard FINAL DEMAND” on your package. With a choice of liveries, you also have a choice of messsges. Other variations are:

CAUTION - Live Spiders

Marks & Spencers Charge Card Bill

Bank Statement (Bank Debt Recovery Unit)

.......yer woman will NEVER open them!

Probably the single most important missing link for the 1950-85 (35 years!!) period missing now is the AEC railcar.

This is the only thing which spanned the steam era, the green’n’grey era, the black’n’tan era, and in the form of push-pulls the Supertrain era.

By the mid 1950s they monopolised many CIE main line services, if not most in some areas. They even made it to West Cork, Tramore, Omagh, Enniskillen and Newcastle. They ran on the Dublin to Belfast, Dublin to Cork lines, the entire MGWR, and Sligo to Limerick to Tralee and Waterford.

An AEC is as essential to a (main line) GNR setting as steam engines are. It is EVERY bit as essential to the CIE scene as green six-wheelers, “H” vans and J15s. It is  as irreplaceable to this entire period as a DART is to a model railway  of Connolly Station in 2018, or a 141 and 071 and Mk 2s to ANY 1980s layout.

Any ex-GN area UTA or NIR based layout of 1958-74 period needs them too.

For such s long period in railway history, comparatively few liveries are needed.

1.   GNR dark blue & cream

2.   CIE green - darker with simplified lining

3.   CIE later green

4.   CIE black’n’tan

5.   UTA green with wasp stripes

6.   GNR livery with UTA markings **

7.   UTA lighter blue & cream - narrow cream band **

8.   UTA lighter blue & cream - broader cream band

9.   NIR maroon and light grey.

10.  Black-ended black’n’tan for pushpull cars in CIE livery.

(** Versions 6, 7, & 8 were both extremely short lived and in all three cases only applied to a few examples, not (and nothing like) the whole fleet.)

Hey are we loosing the run of ourselves looking for even more goodies? :) The 'Holy Grail' is no longer a myth, the A class is really coming. :) Happiness is not a cigar called 'Hamlet', its an A class loco numbered '001' from IRM. Contentment.

A Class Insight: A23r, CIE Black & Tan Livery, as Rebuilt with 'dipped' tan band.

A23r.jpg.1972484af60ca630a2bbdfec499e76bc.jpg

This evening we look at A23r in Black and Tan livery, one that is remembered fondly on the network. When A23r and her sisters emerged from Inchicore after rebuilding, it was in this livery.

This variant of the livery features a dipped band, which runs under the body-side grill, rather than through it, as illustrated here with special thanks to Jonathan Allen.

A23 entered traffic in February 1956, was rebuilt in June 1971 and was withdrawn in October 1991.

A Class Insight: 018 in CIE Supertrain Livery, Staff snatchers, no CAWS, original windscreens

Supertrain_1_watermarked_896x640.jpg.57d890b6fed34e938bcf0f99af8ce210.jpg

Next up in our look at our A Class models is 018 in CIE Supertrain livery with original windows and staff snatchers, placing it firmly in the mid-70s to mid-80s condition as per the shot of 004 above.

018 entered traffic in January 1956, was rebuilt in July 1971 and was finally withdrawn from traffic in October 1992.

018 displays the classic Supertrain era A class, a livery and loco that is often seen as iconic in the late CIE era. Replicate this era on your layout, order one today! https://irishrailwaymodels.com/collections/a-class-locomotive/products/018-a-class-locomotive

Hi everyone,

We know it's taken us a while, but livery details of all the A Classes is now online here https://irishrailwaymodels.com/collections/a-class-locomotive

Should help you with your decisions!

Cheers,

Fran

Thanks Fran that will be really helpful. Unfortunately that web site is very slow at the moment and the thumbnail images for each loco are not appearing, therefore its not possible to click a thumbnail to see the larger livery image on the upper panel of each loco's web page.
