The internet is truly a double edged sword - fantastic for sharing knowledge and getting in contact with like minded people and those whom you share interests - like here .......on the other hand - it has truly ordained a new age of stupid in giving a platform for a  multitude of awful fecking gobsh^tes who know little enough to be  truly dangerous....

Yep - the whole 'anti-vaccination' thing is a big problem. People would rather trust some clown on Facebook etc rather than doctors.

Never underestimate the availability of stupidity. During one of the artificial fuel shortages on the Big Island a few years ago, my local filling station was subject to the usual panic buying queues. This clogged the roads so much, that the replenishment tanker couldn't get there when it was empty. Also, even though under pressure, the cashier spotted that a car had been 'filled' with far more fuel than it should be capable of carrying - and a fish tank was discovered on the back seat. Also, someone else was apprehended trying to fill a wheelie bin with petrol.

Masks are more about reduced infection from the wearer. Viruses may well be small, but the idea is to catch the materials that the virus is travelling on, rather than individual virus particles.

Agreed - they'll stop spray from a sneeze or cough exiting the body & landing on surfaces that others could then come in contact with, thereby picking up the particles with the virus

Got this from a colleague.  Is it scaremongering or just good practice?

CHINA'S BANKS DISINFECT OR DESTROY BANKNOTES

China's central bank in Guangzhou announced it will destroy cash collected by hospitals, buses, and markets in coronavirus-afflicted areas to curb the outbreak's contagion, financial news outlet Caixin reported Saturday.

The People's Bank of China ordered all paper currency with high exposure to the outbreak withdraw cash for either destruction or disinfection, according to Caixin. Commercial banks were told to place banknotes from infected areas aside, clean them, and hand them to the central bank.

The coronavirus continues to spread around the world and most heavily hit China's population. The outbreak is responsible for 1,670 deaths with nearly 70,000 infected as of Sunday afternoon. Coronavirus has already prompted economists to lower their expectations for global growth, and major corporations have warned that the drag on global supply chains will likely hit quarterly results.

The People's Bank of China will use high temperatures or ultraviolet light to disinfect bills and store the cash for more than 14 days before placing it back into circulation. Central banks around the world frequently destroy old notes to balance out the supply with new cash. The practice doesn't affect the money supply, though the coronavirus-related action is separate from such regular measures.

An unnamed deputy chief at a large bank in Guangzhou told Caixin that, while customers will be asked where their deposited cash is from, "it would be difficult for such a measure to be completely effective."

Money in the form of cash, door handles, handshaking, etc., are all potential routes for transmission of all sorts of things.

Anybody with any concerns is welcome to allow any cash they are suspicious of to rest in my account...     PIMP

As are Lamborginis, Ferrari’s, Bank Vault Safety Box Keys, all of which may be collected at no cost and held for a duration of time until all fears are depleted.....to rest in my personal account...or estate...😃😃.    PIMP

Awe people really need to get a grip. banghead.gif The risk of Covid-19 is an economic risk not a risk to life statistically. The risk of death is less than 0.0001% of the global population. Some  data attached below to give some sense of perspective. The mass hysteria is ridiculous, folks afraid to go to work, kids being kept home from schools with no connection with infected people, its all totally bonkers. People need to get a grip. Look at the raw data below. Ok the data is about a week old, but only 3100 fatalities worldwide and there are only 90,000 cases. Think how many people will die on roads this week, how many will die of ordinary Irish heart disease, alcohol related illness, commoner Irish winter flu, how many children died of starvation since you started reading this post? Perspective. Media hysteria is winding up nervous gullible types.

I'm sorry Noel but your 0.0001% assumes the virus is not going to spread any further when the reality is it is spreading faster and faster every day that passes. It is going to happen now, everywhere, and the death rate is higher than 3%

John Travolta was hospitalized for suspected COVID-19, but doctors now confirm that it was only Saturday Night Fever, and they assure everyone that he is Staying Alive

Mmm, apparently, he had chills, and they were multiplying - it sounds like it was probably just a straightforward 'flu.

Thankfully no, but if that is what the virus can do to people.....Imagine having to go into lockdown with a member of your family behaving like that (complete with shirt and maraccas).
