Irishswissernie Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 Sligo Leitrim & Northern Counties. Railbus 2A on the 6.20am to Enniskillen at Sligo dwarfed by a CIE Railcar, poor neg because of the light 3 April 1956. Glenfarne "Lough Melvin" 8 June 1957. 17 Quote
Galteemore Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 Fabulous. Note the mail being loaded on to 2A. A far cry from the 4-4-0 hauled ‘Mail’ of the 20s! 2 Quote

Irishswissernie Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 A couple of undated views but ca 2003-4 at Carrick on Suir. 13 Quote
skinner75 Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 (edited) One of the ITG tours (possibly the Suir Thing, 9th Oct 2004)- I was on that one. I think tour loco 085 was swapped out there for 152 + 190 off the cement Edited November 10, 2023 by skinner75 2 Quote
Niles Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 (edited) Second one looks like the Docklands Pioneer tour on 31st March 2007, 152+190 worked Connolly-Limerick Junction via Kilkenny and Waterford. Oddly both locos ended up in the ITG fleet. Edited November 10, 2023 by Niles 1 2 Quote
Irishswissernie Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 Looking at the trees and leaves plus the Beet on the top view I would say that the top one is the 'Suir Thing' 9 Oct 2004 and the bottom one the 'Docklands Pioneer' 31 March 2007. 4 1 Quote
Irishswissernie Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 SLNCR. Railcar B at Manorhamilton 8 June 1957. There is a fault on this neg but it doesn't detract too much from the overall 'atmosphere' West Clare, Diesel powered goods at Lahinch 24 March 1960. 19 Quote
Galteemore Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 (edited) Fabulous. The SLNC pic is probably taken about 5pm - this is the 4pm ex Sligo passenger service crossing the 2pm goods out of Enniskillen. Edited November 11, 2023 by Galteemore 1 1 Quote
Irishswissernie Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 County Donegal Railways today. Raphoe Railcar 14 12 May 1959. 2 views of Ballyshannon 8 June 1957. 16 Quote
leslie10646 Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 Great stuff, Ernie. Your photographer was obviously one of the LCGB group led by Lance King, for his colour slides for those dates are very similar. You can see members of the group boarding Railcar B at Manorhamilton, which they had reached behind Lough Melvin on the goods. At Ballyshannon, Lance took colour of the trailer seen in one of the shots, but your photographer's shots show a lot more of the layout of the station. Do we get shots on the Bundoran branch next? 1 1 Quote

Irishswissernie Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 OK we will start on our journey from Bundoran to Bundoran Junction and points east/north. The following are by 3 different photographers, LG Marshall, WAC Smith and Nick Nicholson. Bundoran U class 200 July 1955 LGM. Ballyshannon, 74 10.30 am Bundoran - Enniskillen WACS 3 April 1956. Ballyshannon 50 NN 8 June 1957. 14 1 Quote
airfixfan Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Nothing remains today at Bundoran. Was at a talk there in September which has some nice photos plus local artifacts. 1 1 Quote
leslie10646 Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Wonderful, Ernie, thanks. Mr Smith's shot of Ballyshannon is particularly good as it shows the lie of the land as well. 2 Quote
Irishswissernie Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 Another view of Ballyshannon 8 June 1957 before we do a brief side trip to Courtmacsherry 29 August 1960. finishing with a view of Timoleague village same date. We shall return to Ballyshannon etc next time. 16 Quote

Irishswissernie Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 (edited) Back to the Bundoran branch, a last view at Ballyshannon of No 50, before we move on to Belleek 8 June 1957. The Driver patiently again awaiting the photographer re-boarding the train, whilst the rest of the train crew have a 'chat', possibly discussing job options with less than 4 months to closure on 1 October 1957. leslie10646 Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 Little wonder that the driver was on the lookout, I expect that most of the LCGB party was standing with the photographer - in other words most of the passengers on his train! Remember the money on those trains was often what was carried in the vans! Great stuff this, Ernie. I only have Lance's colour - Richard Mclachlan has his Black and White - so I'm seeing more the bits of that journey thanks to you. 2 1 Quote
Irishswissernie Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 (edited) No 50 has now arrived at Pettigo 8 June 1957. The next view of the train is at Irvinestown, No 50 now apparently has a cattle wagon in the consist, it may be that the date recorded in the index or the location is wrong . EDIT Location is correct. Finally a couple of views at Portrush, no date. Edited November 18, 2023 by Irishswissernie 15 Quote
DJ Dangerous Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 Your photo archive is an absolutely invaluable resource, @Irishswissernie. I usually catch up a few days at a time. The detective work that you tease out of other members in the process of the posts adds an immeasurable amount. Thank you for doing this. 3 1 Quote
Irishswissernie Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 (edited) Irvinestown re EDITED) & Bundoran Junction today, 8 June 1957 with Loco 50. 5 views because I uploaded them to flickr in the wrong order! First one is 50 said to be at Irvinestown but I'm pretty sure this is Kesh so I am amending the Title. No 50 has now arrived at Bundoran Junction. First view is of the train drawing out of the Bundoran branch platform. Second & third are the train after reversal into the Enniskillen platform and the fourth the loco reversing into the Omagh platform probably propelling a van off its train onto a train for Omagh. This appears to have been a regular ocurrence. Edited November 22, 2023 by Irishswissernie 15 1 Quote
Irishswissernie Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 GNRI Fintona Junction 149 7 June 1957. SLNCR Coach 9, Enniskillen 8 June 1957. The last 2 date from the early 2000's, DART's 8601 at Tara Street & 8328 unknown location might be Fairview? 13 Quote
leslie10646 Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Looking at the photo of the UG at Fintona Jct, I realised that I could replicate it, although not the precise coaches. I have a clerestory courtesy of Richard Eliis-Hobbs, I have several brake/thirds and everything behind the coaches is in the Provincial Wagons range ..... 3 Quote

Patrick Davey Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Loving the views of the Bundoran branch. Kesh seems to have been largely ignored by photographers for some reason. A friend of mine lives between Kesh and Pettigo and is adamant that the Danske bank in Kesh was the railway station - I haven't had the heart to correct him as yet...... 4 Quote
Irishswissernie Posted November 22, 2023 Posted November 22, 2023 Alighting at Fintona Junction for a quick gallop er trot to Fintona today. The station interior is 25 September 1953. The others 7 June 1957. 10 Quote
