IRM and Accurascale - Multi Award Winning!

Hi everyone,

As you may know, we were recently nominated for some gongs in the Hornby Magazine Annual Awards, based on a public vote by modellers!

Our monster Accurascale KUA nuclear flask wagons fended off some very strong competition to take home the Hornby Magazine "Best OO Carriage or Wagon of The Year" prize. We were simply blown away that we finished top of the class in a very competitive field.

We thought we were done receiving awards for the evening, perfectly content that our nuclear beasts had hit a sweet spot for so many modellers across the hobby. But no, you only went and voted for us as your "Manufacturer of the Year!"

As you can see, our two Project Managers, Gareth (left) and Paul (right) were on hand to collect the awards and bask in the plaudits!

To say we are gobsmacked is an understatement! We are humbled that you saw us fit to receive such an award. For a company who are just over four years in the British market we are amazed that what we do has resonated with so many. After all, we are all aware of the massive household names in the British market that us small underdogs are taking on. We have put a lot of hard work in over the past six years as we began IRM, but it would be for nothing without you, our customers, supporting us. Thank you so much for your votes, for showing us that we are on the right path and doing the right things to serve you. We know we dont always get everything right (ahem, delays!) but we work tirelessly to ensure you get the very best models possible for your layout or collection.

So, from all the team here at IRM/Accurascale, thank you for your support and recognition. Now we must push on, deliver more great models at reasonable prices, and try and stay in top spot in 2022!

The Irish scene is still very much a drop in the ocean compared to British outline, which is the second largest market in Europe (and one of the largest in the world). Indeed, IRM would not be sustainable by itself, hence Accurascale...

Would be quite interesting to know how large the respective markets are (at least considered to be) along with Europe..

I follow the modelling scenes in Indonesia, South Africa and Brazil, and to an extent India, and despite the sizes of those countries, with almost no exceptions, the standards are nowhere remotely close to those achieved by IRM / Accurascale. Not even in the same galaxy.

The solitary exception is the superb, but very expensive, models made of South African locomotives by one solitary "one-man-band" manufacturer. And he would equal - but not exceed - IRM / A'scale.

I guess Heljan probably had the same "problem" with the small Danish market and decided to make stuff from another market to cross subsidise. So the British modelling enthusiast gains a great company out of a dearth of RTR Irish modelling stuff down the years. There's some delicious irony in that. I bet the "larger UK manufacturers" wish they'd provided a few half decent bits and pieces to us in Ireland down the years now lol.

As others have rightly said, this award is thoroughly deserved not just because the models are of the best RTR quality, but because of the whole openness and communication on forums like this. If I'm honest I was not surprised to hear that Accurascale won MotY.

It'll be interesting to see which market you lads tackle next

"Generally" the German Market is about a billion euro, the UK market about £150m and the Irish market about €2m

That's really interesting about the relative market sizes. I'm actually surprised the Irish market is worth that much. I would also have thought the UK and German markets were much closer in size than that. When can we expect the Akkuraskale Kriegslok then?

It's funny that IRM/Accurascale have to fend off very strong competition in categories for which they themselves are responsible for raising the bar. Railway modellers are the real winners at the end of the day.

Congratulations, well deserved. I buy British and Irish models so I have IRM and Accurascale models. I have the KUA Nuclear Flask wagons, the Castle Cement wagons, British Steel wagons and I also have other nuclear wagons. The quality is top notch and you can buy a complete train in one purchase with all different numbers and there’s great value for money in their prices. The British market has become very competitive with new entrants coming into the market and the standards are getting higher.

Apart from the quality of the models themselves, this sets you apart from everybody else. Nobody does customer interaction like IRM!

 

Don't you mean a Class 319 "Retales", distant cousin to the 071???

 

 

 

Nice video clips. Listening to 319 shows how screechey the 071 sound deciders are compared to real 071s that don’t have the annoying high pitched whine we hear on so many models. They are Diesel engines after all not jet turbines. 

Ps. Looking forward to running IRM A class with EMD and in the future Crossley sound decoders for the silver and green livery models.

The 319s have EMD-567 engine blocks, whereas the 071 engines are EMD-645, which have a different tone. The 071 'scream' comes from the turbocharger; as far as I know the 319s don't have turbos fitted.
